Writer’s Note, News & Views
There are just four weeks left to experience the 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival at Walt Disney World Resort, as it wraps up on May 27th. After that, the park will go without a Festival for a lot longer than it has in quite a few years, with the 2024 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival starting August 29th. Before the next Festival, though, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza will finally open June 10, and MousePlanet has been invited to a media event which will include a close look at the new facility when it opens. We expect that the media event will give us an idea of Walt Disney World’s focus heading into the second half of the year and more. We still do not expect the biggest future details for the resort before D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event coming up in Anaheim in August.
Interestingly, in recent past years, Disney has celebrated halfway-to-Halloween about now, but we have not heard anything about Magic Kingdom’s plans for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this year as of yet. Of course, merely by typing that sentence, haven’t I all-but-guaranteed that Disney will make announcements about Halloween after I hit the publish button on Tuesday? If that’s the case, we’ll be sure to share on social media (at minimum).
In any event, as I have written before, April tends to have some of Central Florida’s best weather. So, yesterday, the weather was a lovely mid-80s day, with reasonably low humidity and no forecast rain, and I ventured over to EPCOT to walk a lap around the park and to catch one of the performances of Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone. Peter said during the band’s first set yesterday that he and the band have been playing at EPCOT festivals since 2003, and I have caught one or more of their sets nearly every year for the past decade. The band draws overflow-crowds to the America Gardens Theatre, and, indeed, the standby queue was in place for the 5:30 p.m. show by 3 p.m. yesterday, and after the 5:30 p.m. set ended, I noted that the queue for the 6:45 p.m. set reached the miniature train area of the Germany pavilion.
As we head into May around here in Central Florida, we will start to see the 90º days (and above) becoming more common. The humidity will start its upward climb towards its summer heights too, but the month of May has tended to have a good number of fairly nice days during my 10 years of living here in Central Florida. Of course, Florida weather is never entirely predictable. The National Hurricane Center marks the official start of tropical storm season as June 1 (but there was a system of interest that was not a threat to North America just last week). Indeed, I have noticed that even the daily thunderstorm patterns do not become common until July, so there is still a bit of time to enjoy our nice weather. As always, if you are headed this way, be prepared for hot and rainy just in case, and appreciate the days that are not!
1900 Park Fare Has Reopened at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
1900 Park Fare recently reopened at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney invited MousePlanet to a hosted dinner this past week at the reimagined character dining venue.
Like all of Walt Disney World Resort, the restaurant closed at the onset of the global pandemic back in 2020. When it finally reopened earlier this month, it had been given a refreshed look featuring what Disney describes as the grand charm and whimsy of turn-of-the-century gardens and fairgrounds. It is open daily for breakfast from 8 a.m. until noon and dinner from 4 until 9 p.m., and reservations are strongly recommended (and require a credit card guarantee on the My Disney Experience or website). At publication, breakfast is $54/adult and $34/child (plus tax and gratuity); dinner is $66/adult and $41 child (plus tax and gratuity).
Like many character dining locations at Walt Disney World, 1900 Park Fare is what Disney calls an “all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet.” The menu is available in the My Disney Experience app and on this page of DisneyWorld.com. With Tiana in attendance, Tiana’s Gumbo is one of the items on the buffet, and the restaurant’s return also marks the return of “Strawberry Soup” to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort–cast members say some guests choose it as an appetizer, some have it as a side, and some, like me, have it as a dessert (as it is, essentially, strawberries blended into yogurt).

During meals, diners can meet Princess Tiana in her new outfit featured in her new attraction Tiana’s Bayou Adventure which opens at Magic Kingdom this summer, as well as Mirabel, Aladdin, and Cinderella. There is a feature moment where diners are asked to be seated and a recorded narration talks about each of the character’s wishes and guests are encouraged to share theirs on cards distributed when arriving at their table for the first time. The narration explains that the four characters guests meet here are tired together by not only being dreamers with a wish, they all accomplished dreams by their hard work.
And, speaking of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, after dinner, I cruised over to Magic Kingdom and saw the latest progress at the site of the new attraction and shared some photos on our MousePlanet Facebook page.
Drawn to Life Presented by Cirque du Soleil & Disney Introduces new “Page to Stage Signature Experience”
Drawn to Life presented by Cirque du Soleil and Disney, which debuted at Disney Springs West Side back in November 2021, is now offering a new “Page to Stage Signature Experience.” It is a special behind-the-scenes look at the show, with a meet-and-greet, premium seating, and more perks.
The show, Drawn to Life, took up residence at Disney Springs after the end of the two decade run of La Nouba and is the first-ever creative collaboration between Cirque and Disney. Drawn to Life tells the story of the love between a father and a daughter, drawing inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 100-year heritage of storytelling. It celebrates iconic Disney stories and characters through innovative design, acrobatic performances, choreography, musical scores and brand-new animation created by Disney Animation artists. Drawn to Life is presented Wednesdays through Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Drawn to Life Tickets are available through December 2024.
The new vip opportunity, the “Page to Stage Signature Experience,” will begin on May 24. Limited to nine guests, the “Page to Stage Signature Experience” will offer an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the show, including a backstage tour and artist meet-and-greet, in addition to premium show seating, collectible merchandise and more, following the second performance on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets for the unique experience are $285 for adults and $225 for children, which includes premium seating for a Drawn to Life performance and includes taxes and fees.
The “Page to Stage Signature Experience” guests will begin their evening with a personalized greeting and check-in with their “Page to Stage” host, then select concessions of their choice to enjoy during the show, including a souvenir popcorn bucket. Guests will then enjoy Drawn to Life from premium, reserved seating. Following the performance, “Page to Stage” guests will meet with some of the show’s talented artists for photos and Q&A. In the exclusive highlight of the evening, guests will go on a backstage – and under-the-stage – tour of Drawn to Life, with the opportunity to get an up-close look at some of the show’s intricate costumes and one-of-a-kind props. As a memento of their experience, guests will receive a Drawn to Life gift bag, in addition to receiving a discount off purchases made at the theater’s Cirque du Soleil store.
MousePlanet has been invited to a media preview of the new experience later this week, and we will share what we learn.

Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or a travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today! As always, we remind our readers that Walt Disney World Resort theme park tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Florida or eligible for U.S. Military Personnel benefits. Historically, non-Florida residents tend to benefit the most by purchasing tickets in advance (and, of course, being mindful of the rules relevant to those tickets). Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside Disney property stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Walt Disney World Theme Park admissions, and may result in denial of entry. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks.
