Major Disney Hollywood Studios' additions announced at D23
The 2015 D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA gave Disney's Hollywood Studios fans answers to some lingering questions about the future of the park when Disney officials announced two major park expansions: Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land.
The park, which has seen numerous closures and changes in recent months, has been the center of speculation among Disney parks fans for a while. Now, Disney is preparing two significant overhauls.
Star Wars Land
Two, new major attractions will be part of the new Star Wars Land, including one that allows riders to take control of the iconic Millenium Falcon and another attraction which promises to drop visitors in the middle of an an epic battle in the Star Wars universe.

As Disney's largest single themed land expansion ever at 14 acres, the new Star Wars Land intends to “transport guests to a never-before- seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life,” according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

The two new major attractions aren't the only new things coming to the theme park:
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – Later this year, Star Tours will include a new adventure featuring locations and characters from the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, giving guests a new adventure in the Star Wars galaxy.
- Star Wars Launch Bay – This interactive experience will take guests into the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with special exhibits and peeks behind-the-scenes, including opportunities to visit with new and favorite Star Wars characters, special merchandise and food offerings. Star Wars Launch Bay will be located in the Animation Courtyard at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
- Jedi Training Academy — A favorite of younger fans is reimagined with a new experience that includes new characters and a new villain to battle from the popular Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels.
- Season of the Force – This new seasonal event, beginning early 2016, brings new experiences to to Disney's Hollywood Studios, where guests will close out weekend nights with a new fireworks spectacular set to the iconic score of the Star Wars movies.
No word on the status of the current Star Wars Weekends events or a completion date for this current project.
Toy Story Land
The reimagining of Disney's Hollywood Studios will take guests to infinity and beyond, allowing them to step into the world of Toy Story Land. This new 11-acre land will transport visitors into the adventurous outdoors of Andy's backyard. People will think they've been shrunk to the size of Woody and Buzz as they are surrounded by oversized toys that Andy has assembled using his vivid imagination.

Using toys like building blocks, plastic buckets and shovels, and game board pieces, Andy has designed the perfect setting for this land, which will include two new attractions and one expanded favorite:
- Family-friendly roller coaster – All on the back of Slinky Dog, this coaster will zip and zoom, plunge and coast as it takes riders on a fun, toy-filled adventure throughout the new land.
- Alien saucers attraction – The famous little green aliens from the movie will take visitors around for a spin in their very own flying saucers. The music, lighting and sound effects add to the flurry of action, while “The Claw” looms over.
- Toy Story Mania! – Riders glide into the Toy Story Midway Games Play Set and take aim at 3D objects in a variety of fast-paced games, with an expansion that adds a third track to this popular attraction.
Just like Star Wars Land, Disney officials offered no definitive time table for Toy Story Land completion, although construction has been underway at Toy Story Mania! for a few months now.
More details released about Disney's Animal Kingdom expansion
Disney's Animal Kingdom prepares to make a big step into a night-time park, according to a variety of announcements from the 2015 D23 Expo last week.
First, the new “Avatarland” finally has an official name: Pandora – The World of AVATAR. Park visitors journey into the magnificent world of Pandora at this new AVATAR-themed land—a world that includes floating mountains, a bioluminescent forest ,and the winged creatures known as Banshees, giving guests a transformational experience with the newest attraction, AVATAR Flight of Passage. The flying experience will give guests a birds-eye view of the world of Pandora on an aerial rite of passage.
Beyond the Banshees, Disney's Animal Kingdom has more new experiences in store for visitors, including:
- “Rivers of Light” – Expected to open in the spring of 2016, “Rivers of Light” combines live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. “Rivers of Light” magically come to life on the natural stage of Discovery River
- Kilimanjaro Safaris – This popular attraction becomes new nighttime adventure in the spring of 2016.. Safari trekkers will travel through the African savanna amid the magically extended orange glow of the setting sun and discover two species new to the attraction: African wild dogs and hyenas.
Epcot's Soarin' to have international update
Anyone who's been to Epcot recently (or sees our weekly newsletter photo section) knows about the construction cranes outside The Land pavilion. A third Soarin' room has been under construction for a few months, but last week, Disney officials finally confirmed what had been spreading around for some time: Soarin' is not only getting more room, but a timely, new subject.
Soarin' Over California will transition to Soarin' Around the World, where riders will glide over a variety of international natural and crafted wonders such as the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza, and more.
Even more important, the new film was shot in high-quality digital film, which will make the attraction more clear and detailed than ever. Riders of the current Soarin' attraction have complained about the film and screen's condition, which some feel takes away from an otherwise fantastic ride.
Disney announced that the updated attraction will debut sometime in 2016.
New Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant confirmed for Magic Kingdom
The Magic Kingdom hopes that fans of the popular Jungle Cruise will want to continue their entertaining experience in a new restaurant : The Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen in Adventureland.
At the Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd Skipper Canteen, diners can enjoy “World Famous Jungle Cuisine” in one of several unique dining rooms, including a crew mess hall and a once-hidden secret meeting room of the famed Society of Explorers and Adventurers. The restaurant will also be staffed by Jungle Cruise Skippers.
The Jungle Skipper Canteen is currently under construction in the Magic Kingdom and is projected to open in late 2015.
Disney hopes to release reservation details and menu options sometime soon, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
