Writer’s Note, News & Views
Hey, MousePlanet! Yes, I have been away: away from publishing Updates and, indeed, far away from Central Florida for some of that time! Among other places I traveled, the trip included a stop at The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, and a week-long stay in what has become my favorite Disney Vacation Club Resort, Aulani in Ko Olina, Hawaii on the island of Oahu.

As regular readers may recall, I have been a Disney Vacation Club Member since 2000, long before I moved to Central Florida. After I moved closer to Magic Kingdom than any of my DVC Home Resorts are located, I decided to make my first visit to Aulani back in 2017, and it has quickly become my favorite Disney Resort. Sure, it lacks the proximity to theme parks and its “on-property” dining options are limited. Nevertheless, its location on the Pacific Ocean, its dedication to providing a Hawaiian cultural experience with Disney-dedication to the details (and Disney details too), and, most of all, some of the best cast members I have ever encountered, have made it a place that I start thinking of returning to pretty much from the moment I walk in to the lobby at the start of each trip. This was my sixth stay at Aulani, and I expect I will start working on booking a seventh before too long.
When I flew back into Orlando International Airport, I was able to catch a few views of Walt Disney World Resort since I was on the right side of the plane during the approach. Spotting the big landmarks of the Resort really depend upon which approach your flight is on (and the weather), but if you spot Interstate 4 out the window and your plane is following it from the north, you can spot Downtown Orlando, the Universal Orlando Resort (including its soon-to-open EPIC Universe), and then Disney Springs with the Magic Kingdom area off in the distance to the northwest and EPCOT pretty much due west.

News from Walt Disney World Resort remains rather quiet, with the main items since our last publication being more closing dates–specifically, our last opportunities to see It’s Tough to Be A Bug at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (March 16) and MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (June 7). Hopefully, in coming days and weeks, we will start to get official word on opening dates for the new entertainment offerings coming for “Summer 2025” which include Magic Kingdom’s first new nighttime parade in decades, “Disney Starlight,” “The Little Mermaid-A Musical Adventure” and “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Before all that, though, we’ll see the end of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts next week and then the start of the 30th anniversary edition of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival the week after that.
EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival: Returns March 5-June 2, 2025
With the clock quickly winding down for the 2025 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts just next week on February 24, it is already time to turn attention to the 30th anniversary edition of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival which runs March 5 to June 2, 2025. The Festival best known for its vast assortment of topiary and garden displays will greet guests at the park’s main entrance with a brand new display featuring Moana, Maui, Heihei and Pua.

Disney has published nearly all the acts scheduled to appear at the American Gardens Theater for the three times nightly Garden Rocks Concert Series. Dining packages are available for guaranteed seating at Friday through Monday night shows.
The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts which is wrapping up next week, was the first to use the new CommuniCore Hall as exhibit space with “Once Upon A Stage: 30 Years of Disney on Broadway.” Disney Parks Blog described it as allowing guests to “experience the magic of Broadway both on and off the stage in this walkthrough exhibit celebrating three decades of Disney on Broadway.” With the Festival’s end approaching, Disney Parks Blog shared some hidden details of the exhibit, and I shared a video walk-through of the exhibit on our Instagram page (which is embedded below).
Flower & Garden Festival promises “a new activation” at CommuniCore Hall coming up next. Disney Parks Blog says guests can, “Get a bee’s eye view at CommuniCore Hall, with a new gallery that is larger than life! Grab a bite at EPCOT Farmers Feast and learn more about how Disney’s Horticulture team brings topiaries, flower towers and more to the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.” Expect to see a Foodie Guide and more Festival details in this coming week or so.

The Passholder Buzz section of the My Disney Experience app says that the new Ray Passholder magnet will no longer be available for pickup at EPCOT after February 16, 2025. (Its distribution was supposed to continue until the end of the month.) Passholders that did not get a chance to get the Ray magnet may be eligible to receive that magnet by mail later this spring and the Buzz reminds passholders to confirm their U.S. mailing address in their My Disney Experience accounts as soon as possible. A Minnie Mouse Passholder magnet is now available for pickup at Creations Shop through February 28 (while supplies last–pass and photo ID required and the complicated park reservation rules remain in place for 2025: reservations required for all parks prior to 2 p.m. daily and Magic Kingdom on Saturday and Sunday, but park hopping all day subject to capacity after admission to one park). Passholders that already picked up a Ray magnet are eligible to pick up a Minnie Mouse magnet too.
This & That & Reminders…
…Disney has shared new artwork for the new nighttime parade, “Disney Starlight,” coming to Magic Kingdom this summer, and a new look at the new “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” show coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
And don't miss this fresh look at Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, an all-new show starring your favorite Disney Villains! Learn how the team at Disney Live Entertainment is bringing these new experiences to life: https://t.co/EG4c9nWkur 🌟🎭 pic.twitter.com/atKrbX3UhZ

…The last opportunity to visit Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is June 7, 2025. On June 8, 2025 it will close permanently to make way for construction of the new Monsters, Inc. themed land. And, while the Monsters are displacing the Muppets from this part of the park and bringing an end to the last major project Muppets creator Jim Henson personally worked on, the Muppets will be displacing Aerosmith from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at some point in the future that we very well could hear some attraction closing dates for in the coming months. Next door to the coaster, the new show Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is scheduled to debut this summer as well.
…For those wondering what will become of the building next to Disney’s Hollywood Studios that was the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, Disney confirmed last month that Walt Disney Imagineering will be using it for offices.
…Inside the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, It’s Tough to Be a Bug will close forever on March 17, 2025, to make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether! which is expected to open in “winter 2025.” In Disney announcement terms, that means our last opportunity to see the show is March 16.

…REMINDER. The first phase of closures in DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to make way for the Tropical Americas land scheduled to open in 2027, got underway on January 13, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, and the Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures gift shop are all now closed forever. The rest of DinoLand USA, including the DINOSAUR attraction and Restaurantosaurus remain open for now, but will eventually close as the Tropical Americas construction expands. Disney has said as to DINOSAUR in particular, “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” Folks around the web and social media have taken that to mean that the attraction will remain open throughout the year before it closes to be reimagined as a new Indiana Jones adventure. That is certainly one interpretation of that announcement, and, if the development of the Tropical Americas land does not move at a rapid pace, it very well could be that DINOSAUR continues operations into 2026; we do know for sure that the attraction is on a countdown to extinction.
…Even with all the closures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there have been some occasional debuts among the animal inhabitants. Unfortunately, Maharajah Jungle Trek closes more than an hour before the park does, so when I ventured over for Moonlight Magic, there was not an opportunity to try to get a look in person.

…REMINDER. Still speaking of closures, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom has closed for its year-long refurbishment. Social media reports this week showed new track for the attraction arriving at the park. Since Disney has announced its significant park expansion projects beyond BTM, we expect this refurbishment project could also lay the groundwork for that further expansion, but Disney has not elaborated as yet. We excpect that the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom will need to close to make way for the expansion project, but Disney has not yet announced a closing date for it and the My Disney Experience app shows it operating during its usual hours.
…Another player that won the Super Bowl had his “I’m going to Disney World” moment this past week. Congrats to Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.

…REMINDER: Disney’s Blizzard Beach reopened November 4, 2024, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is closed for seasonal refurbishment. The Disney Water Parks Seasonal Pass remains available for $79 plus tax for a limited-time, providing admission through May 23, 2025. Also, remember that for those staying at Disney Resorts Collection hotels, admission to a water park is free on check-in day (details are here on DisneyWorld.com). Disney Water Parks offer free parking for all guests. For more information on the seasonal pass, visit DisneyWorld.com.

…REMINDER: Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic nights are back in 2025. Remaining dates and locations are:
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: September 1
- EPCOT: April 30 and July 17
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: May 20, June 9, and August 11
Registration for events is required, and has been broken into “Seasons” for purposes of registration. Winter Season registration and events are already concluded.

Spring Season Events:
- EPCOT: 4/30/25
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: 5/20/25 and 6/9/25
Early Registration: February 27, 2025 • General Registration: March 6, 2025
Summer Season Events
- EPCOT: 7/17/25
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: 8/11/25
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 9/1/25
Early Registration: May 15, 2025 • General Registration: May 22, 2025
As in the past, registration for these events is complimentary for eligible DVC members, where “eligible” generally only includes members who have purchased their membership points from Disney, and their guests. For Early Registration, an eligible member also must have a Disney Resort reservation at a DVC property (which includes Disney’s Vero Beach Resort) or any of the other Disney owned/operated hotels, with the party size on the resort registration finalized a few specified days before the Early Registration window opens. Full details and reservation requirements are on this page of DVC’s website, and that is the page where the RSVP link appears on registration dates. Members must enter their DVC Member number prior to entering the virtual waiting room on registration days.
Once successfully registered for an event, the DVC member designated as attending in the registration form is the one that must be present at check-in to check-in the entire party, and that member must have their digital member identification (preferably loaded in their device’s digital wallet) and photo I.D. The entire party must check in together, and early entry to the park before the event’s designated “mix-in” time requires a separate park admission (and park reservation for applicable ticket and pass-types).

…Disney is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the release of Cinderella this month. A 10-year old girl named Rita from Georgia who is battling cancer wished to meet Disney’s costuming team to learn how to design a princess ballgown of her own after watching the animated classic, and Disney worked with Make-A-Wish to bring her behind the scenes at Walt Disney World and make her wish come true. Disney Parks Blog shared the story.

…And, finally, speaking of Cinderella, Give Kids the World, the non-profit Central Florida Resort that provides week-long wish trips to critically ill kids and their families, has an opportunity to stay in the Magic Kingdom Cinderella Castle Suite as part of a fundraiser. Details at GKTW.org/castle.

Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or a travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today! As always, we remind our readers that Walt Disney World Resort theme park tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Florida or eligible for U.S. Military Personnel benefits. Historically, non-Florida residents tend to benefit the most by purchasing tickets in advance (and, of course, being mindful of the rules relevant to those tickets). Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside Disney property stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Walt Disney World Theme Park admissions, and may result in denial of entry. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks.
