Writer’s Note, News & Views
I had a couple of unique Disney experiences this week.
By way of background for those that do not know, I have been a Disney Vacation Club member since 2000 (yes, I hit the 25 year mark in February), and I moved from Chicago to a house closer to Magic Kingdom (but not on Disney property) than any of my DVC “home” resorts back in 2014. I have attended the DVC annual meetings for many of the years since I moved to the neighborhood which, in addition to the legal formalities of the scripted business meeting, provided an opportunity to hear from DVC leadership, mingle with them while enjoying the post-meeting cookies and characters events.
Thanks to the 2024 changes in Florida law requiring condo associations to have quarterly board meetings, each of the Florida condo associations that operate Disney Vacation Club properties separately held their meetings earlier this week at the conference center at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. Only members on the property deed (the legal instrument that makes you a DVC Member) are allowed to RSVP and attend these quarterly meetings. My schedule did not allow me to attend the individual meetings in December 2024, but I did attend the DVC Member gathering that replaced the old combined Annual Meeting and gathering.
The DVC quarterly meetings happened to also fall on the first day of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, so I decided to not only RSVP to attend the meetings for the properties where I own points (Beach Club, BoardWalk, and Old Key West), but to make a reservation to visit EPCOT (since Passholders still need reservations on most days to get in to the park before 2 p.m.). I parked at EPCOT and took the 25 minute stroll from my parking space way out in Rocket (that’s toward the northeast part of the parking lot) through the park gates, World Celebration (including CommuniCore Hall), the western walkway to World Showcase past Imagination pavilion, Canada pavilion, and the United Kingdom, and then out the International Gateway (in the southeast corner of the park), and over to Disney’s BoardWalk Resort’s conference center. So far, none of that was a unique Disney experience for me.
I checked in for the meetings: Beach Club (noon), BoardWalk (1:15 p.m.), and Old Key West (5 p.m.). I do not recall ever being in meetings or an event in BoardWalk conference center, so this was somewhat of a unique experience for me already, but the more unique part was that I was the only DVC Member that showed up to the meeting room for the Beach Club meeting.
Thanks to prior DVC meetings and some of the media events I have been invited to over the years, I have had other opportunities to talk to DVC leadership. At the Beach Club meeting, I had the opportunity to meet (and/or reintroduce myself to) several board members and other DVC cast, and the meeting was addressed, in essence, personally to me. The business of the meeting was just as routine as I expected and not particularly newsworthy: the main update item about Beach Club that you may already know about is the ongoing extensive refurbishment of Stormalong Bay, the feature pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort.
The BoardWalk meeting started with me being the only DVC Member in the room, and, in addition to meeting the Resort’s General Manager and more DVC cast, the board addressed its remarks personally to me. Again, the business details were routine: the lobby refurbishment is complete, the room refurbishments are complete and, like the newer DVC resorts, in many places in the guest rooms, carpeting has been replaced with flooring (which I view as a positive in that it keeps the rooms looking less worn).
During the BoardWalk Q&A, I asked about and the board confirmed the news that JellyRolls is closing its BoardWalk venue in April, and the board is searching for new tenants to occupy both that space and the Big River restaurant space. The Board provided no timeline and confirmed that the lack of lessees for these venues does not impact member dues. Before the Q&A ended, another couple who were also DVC members joined the meeting and asked whether DVC had any plans to expand parking at BoardWalk. The board said it had no plans to expand the parking lot at BoardWalk and the BoardWalk General Manager said that they have stepped up efforts to make sure that the resort has parking available for all guests with room reservations and dining reservations by issuing and monitoring the use of placards. (As I noted above, I parked at EPCOT for these meetings, and, of course, the resort does not want guests going to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios but not staying at BoardWalk to park there.)
The time between the BoardWalk and Old Key West meetings was not convenient enough to both get back to the Flower & Garden Festival and then the meeting, so I decided not to stick around (and cancelled my check in).
I will say to those of our readers that are DVC Members who want to ask questions to the DVC leaders, these meetings seem like a great place to do that. DVC leadership are, of course, bound by a whole lot of legal restrictions that relate to the timeshare industry, and that limits their ability to address questions about future plans for DVC and such, but, even at the past Annual Meetings, the DVC leadership has always been rather solicitous of serious guest questions relating to the operation of the resorts and the guest experience. When the next quarter’s meeting dates are set, I will check my calendar and whether I have questions (or you have provided me with questions) that I should bring to DVC leadership.
EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival: Underway Through June 2, 2025
The 2025 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is now underway through June 2. As we have seen in recent annual editions of the festival (and, to a large degree that did not include live entertainment, even in the “Taste of” version in the wake of the global pandemic), the 30th anniversary edition of the festival features topiaries, gardens, foods, beverages, merchandise, and more, including the three times nightly Garden Rocks Concert Series at the America Gardens Theatre (the lineup is published here on DisneyWorld.com and changes, when they happen, will appear there and the My Disney Experience app; dining packages are available for guaranteed seating at Friday through Monday night shows). This year’s main entrance topiary display is a brand new one featuring Moana, Maui, Heihei and Pua.

Past entrance topiary displays (or parts of them) reappear around the park year after year, as do other popular topiary displays. If you have a recent favorite display, you are likely to spot it somewhere around EPCOT during the festival. I showed off about a half a dozen of them in last week’s Update. I will keep adding more on our social media channels, and I have included the most popular post from our Facebook page this past week and another 15 more that I have not yet shared elsewhere.
Topiaries are all around the park during the Flower & Garden Festival. Photos by Alan S. Dalinka.
When entering the park either at the main gate or at the International Gateway, be sure to pick up the complimentary Festival Passport which provides a full guide to locating all of the topiaries, gardens and playgrounds around the park, highlights the merchandise collections available for purchase, lists the available tours, scavenger hunts (Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration which runs the entire festival and all over the park and the Egg-Stravaganza Savenger Hunt that runs only around World Showcase for a limited time around Easter), and, provides the menus for the more than 20 “Outdoor Kitchens” with special festival food and beverage options (plus the Passport is where to collect the stamps for the “Garden Graze” which provides a complimentary completer “Festival Treat” after purchasing five of the ten specific menu items). Guests with kids at EPCOT also should pick up the complimentary “Fun for Families with Kids” guide available at the parks’ gates.
Speaking of the food and beverage offerings, as noted last week, Disney Parks Blog has published its Foodie Guide: Disney says there are 180 bites to try at this year’s Festival, including new items and returning favorites. As shown in the Passport, the Garden Graze is back: guests partake of a “food stroll” by purchasing five items from the list of 10 in the Festival Passport, get their corresponding stamps, and then receive an exclusive treat from the Pineapple Promenade. The Foodie Guide also highlights kid-friendly picks on the menus around the festival.

Flower & Garden Festival also has what Disney calls “a new activation” at CommuniCore Hall. Disney Parks Blog described it as allowing guests to “Get a bee’s eye view at CommuniCore Hall, with a new gallery that is larger than life! Grab a bite at EPCOT Farmers Feast and learn more about how Disney’s Horticulture team brings topiaries, flower towers and more to the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.” Honestly, the decorations and displays in the hall are rather minimal, with a central topiary display featuring Spike the Bee (on a planter “thing” that we have seen at prior festivals), a few maquettes, and a few printed boards with historical festival details. After the Festival of the Arts stepped up the use of the hall with its Disney on Broadway costume and prop display, this seems like a step backwards for the hall.
CommuniCore Hall is a bit more decorated than it had been during the 2024 Festivals, but it still is not the immersive and activated space Disney had suggested this new Festival Center would become. Photos by Alan S. Dalinka.
This & That & Reminders…
…Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros inside the pyramid at Mexico pavilion at EPCOT is expected to reopen following its refurbishment on March 15, 2025.

…Disney Parks Blog shared highlights of recently completed refurbishments at the All-Star Resorts and the Pop Century Resort. With nice weather usually in the forecast at this time of year, you may just get to see photos on our social media channels and in future editions of the Update, as it sounds like it is time for me to take some walks around those resorts again in coming weeks. Anyone want to join me for a game of “resort bus roulette” at Disney Springs to select a resort to walk?
…REMINDER (and time is running out): Give Kids the World Village, the Central Florida non-profit resort that provides week long cost-free Wish trips for critically ill children and their families has a fund-raiser underway where guests can win a stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite. Entry deadline is March 17, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Full details on this page of the GKTW.org website, and, of course, while MousePlanet is sometimes hosted at media events at the Village, we are not affiliated with the Village and not responsible for its sweepstakes.
…And, speaking of Give Kids the World, if you like to participate in runDisney events and have not yet registered for the upcoming Springtime Surprise Weekend events, April 3-6, 2025, Give Kids the World has registration slots that may still be available for those willing to participate in its fundraising goals. Remember, even when runDisney events sell out, charity partners like Give Kids the World may have race bibs available for fundraisers.
…REMINDER (and time is running out): Inside the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, It’s Tough to Be a Bug will close forever on March 17, 2025, to make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether! which is expected to open in “winter 2025.” In Disney announcement terms, that means our last opportunity to see the show is March 16.
…REMINDER: The first phase of closures in DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to make way for the Tropical Americas land scheduled to open in 2027, got underway on January 13, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, and the Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures gift shop are all now closed forever. The rest of DinoLand USA, including the DINOSAUR attraction and Restaurantosaurus remain open for now, but will eventually close as the Tropical Americas construction expands. Disney has said as to DINOSAUR in particular, “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” Folks around the web and social media have taken that to mean that the attraction will remain open throughout the year before it closes to be reimagined as a new Indiana Jones adventure. That is certainly one interpretation of that announcement, and, if the development of the Tropical Americas land does not move at a rapid pace, it very well could be that DINOSAUR continues operations into 2026; we do know for sure that the attraction is on a countdown to extinction.
…REMINDER: The last opportunity to visit Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is June 7, 2025. On June 8, 2025 it will close permanently to make way for construction of the new Monsters, Inc. themed land. And, while the Monsters are displacing the Muppets from this part of the park and bringing an end to the last major project Muppets creator Jim Henson personally worked on, the Muppets will be displacing Aerosmith from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at some point in the future that we very well could hear some attraction closing dates for in the coming months. Next door to the coaster, the new show Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is scheduled to debut this summer as well.
…REMINDER. Still speaking of closures, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom has closed for its year-long refurbishment. Since Disney has announced its significant park expansion projects beyond BTM, we expect this refurbishment project could also lay the groundwork for that further expansion, but Disney has not elaborated as yet. We excpect that the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom will need to close to make way for the expansion project, but Disney has not yet announced a closing date for it and the My Disney Experience app shows it operating during its usual hours.
…REMINDER. Disney D23 announced the 2025 return of Destination 23 to Walt Disney World Resort. Billed as “the biggest Disney fan event of 2025,” Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney will be August 29-31, 2025. This edition will be held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and D23 says the event has more than doubled in size. A block of rooms is available for reservation at: https://www.mydisneygroup.com/destd25/. D23 Gold Membership seems to be required for ticket purchases, though the on-sale date and information has not yet been published; it is expected this spring. Gold Membership tiers are in effect in 2025, and effect existing Gold Members upon their renewals. Read more about all that, on this page of D23.com.

…UPDATED NEWS & REMINDER: Disney’s Blizzard Beach, which reopened following its seasonal refurbishment back in November, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary starting April 1. On April 1, the water park will offer up “a high-energy DJ spinning some toe-tapping tunes on the deck near the Polar Pub. And fun interactions with Mickey and Minnie decked out in their winter attire. There’s even going to be snowman bowling and character-themed tubes for floating down Cross Country Creek.” The water park will continue its celebration throughout April with dance parties, special anniversary food & beverage items “and more frosted fun than ever.” There will also be some family-friendly games with prizes such as snowflake tattoos, wintery-themed rubber ducks and snowy bubbles. April 30 will be Blizzard Beach’s last operating day for the season, as Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon reopens on May 1 from its seasonal refurbishment. Remember: for those staying at Disney Resorts Collection hotels in 2025, admission to a water park is free on check-in day (details are here on DisneyWorld.com). Disney Water Parks offer free parking for all guests. For more information on the seasonal pass for unlimited water park visits through May 23, visit DisneyWorld.com.

…UPDATED REMINDER: Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic nights are back in 2025. Remaining dates and locations are:
- EPCOT: April 30 and July 17
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: May 20, June 9, and August 11
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: September 1
Registration for events is required, and has been broken into “Seasons” for purposes of registration this year. Winter Season registration and events are already concluded.

Spring Season Events (Registration closed):
- EPCOT: 4/30/25
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: 5/20/25 and 6/9/25
Summer Season Events
- EPCOT: 7/17/25
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: 8/11/25
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 9/1/25
Early Registration: May 15, 2025 • General Registration: May 22, 2025
Registration for these events remains complimentary for eligible DVC members. “Eligible” generally includes only members that purchased their membership points directly from Disney, and their guests. For Early Registration, an eligible member also must have a Disney Resort reservation at a DVC property (which includes Disney’s Vero Beach Resort) or any of the other Disney owned/operated hotels, with the party size on the resort registration finalized a few specified days before the Early Registration window opens. Full details and reservation requirements are on this page of DVC’s website, and that is the page where the RSVP link appears on registration dates. Members must enter their DVC Member number prior to entering the virtual waiting room on registration days, and, as of the Spring 2025 Early Registration, it seems that entering the DVC Member number limited entry into the virtual waiting room to one position per number no matter how many different internet browser sessions were used.
Once successfully registered for an event, the DVC member designated as attending in the registration form is the one that must be present at check-in to check-in the entire party, and that member must have their digital member identification (preferably loaded in their device’s digital wallet) and photo I.D. The entire party must check in together, and early entry to the park before the event’s designated “mix-in” time requires a separate park admission (and park reservation for applicable ticket and pass-types).
…Disney Cruise Line 2026 itineraries have been released and bookings are now open. The next sister ship of Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, is nearing its launch later this year as construction Disney Destiny continues. Construction also continues on the Disney Adventure which will sail the waters of Asia, and, earlier this month, DCL shared more details of the entertainment that will debut aboard, include a first-of-its-kind show featuring Duffy and friends. And while I’m a bit overdue in providing more details I spotted aboard Disney Treasure from the media preview this winter, Disney Parks Blog has published a guide to all of the new ship’s cafes, bars and lounges.
Summer 2026 Disney Cruise Line itineraries have been revealed! For the first time, both the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder will sail to Alaska 🛳️ Bookings for Castaway Club members begin on Feb. 10 and open to the general public on Feb. 17 ⚓️️ https://t.co/5YZ5EnWM67 pic.twitter.com/3DiSijD1rO

…And, it’s almost time for The Mighty Festival: the 2025 St. Paddy’s party event at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Disney Springs will run Friday, March 14, through Monday, March 17. The annual Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival at Florida’s (self-proclaimed) most authentic Irish pub serves up a long weekend of live Irish music, dance, modern Irish eats, drinks, and more with notable Irish bands flown in for the event including headliners Screaming Orphans—the chart-topping all-sister band from Donegal, and Clada—a popular traditional Irish folk band from Galway, and, of course, the Raglan Road Irish Dancers, a talented troupe from the world’s greatest Irish dance shows. Reservations (available on My Disney Experience, Open Table, and RaglanRoad.com) are encouraged for guests who plan to celebrate. On St. Patrick’s Day only, March 17, Raglan Road will open at 10.00 a.m. with a $20 cover charge for guests 18 and older; (first-come, first-served—no reservations on this day only); younger patrons may enter free of charge.

…From Thursday, March 20th through Sunday, March 23rd, it’s the Greek Experience at The Basket at Wine Bar George at Disney Springs. The Basket at Wine Bar George is the counter service window on the outside of the building, and for this special event, it is serving up authentic Greek food and drink. Indulge in gyros, baklava housemade from an old family recipe, spanakopita, Greek fries and other Greek treats. The Basket will be featuring Frouzo , a new ouzo-based frozen drink.
…Also speaking of Disney Springs, we finally know what will occupy the former NBA Experience building, though not the timeframe. LEVEL99, which, according to a press release, is an interactive, social entertainment experience known for its challenge rooms, with two existing locations in New England, will open its newest outpost, and first-ever Florida location in the space. The Disney Springs location will be LEVEL99’s fifth, following the expected openings of its third and fourth locations this year in Tysons Corner Center in Virginia and The Corbin Collection in West Hartford, Connecticut. A typical experience at LEVEL99 locations includes at least 2-3 hours of entertainment play, followed by drinks and food at its scratch kitchen and bar, with some players staying all day. LEVEL99 features challenge rooms, where teams of 2-6 players work together to beat a themed physical or mental challenge that typically lasts 1-4 minutes; arena duels, dispersed throughout the gaming arena for player-vs.-player showdowns; and an art hunt, where players search for hidden glyphs amongst hundreds of pieces of commissioned, local art that are unique to every location. The Disney Springs location will be LEVEL99’s largest to date including the most entertainment options, with over 60 challenge rooms and duels. LEVEL99 will occupy over 45,000 square feet across two-levels that will be able to host upwards of 1,000 players at a time in the interactive gaming and bar/dining space. A two-story bar serving handcrafted cocktails and local beers will serve as the centerpiece of this location, accompanied by its chef-crafted menu including LEVEL99’s signature, award-winning, Detroit-style pizza. This will be LEVEL99’s only location serving the greater Orlando area, and the company plans to hire over 100 roles for its team.
…Back to Disney Cruise Line for a moment. As the clock ticks down to DCL’s launch of its biggest ship late this year, Disney Adventure, which will make its home port in Singapore, a detail was mentioned in an article on cnn.com about the ship that I had not seen (or, at least, had not noticed) in Disney’s various promotions about the new ship. The itineraries of the Adventure will include only days at sea rather than the ship calling upon other ports in Asia. Taking a look at the sailings available on DisneyCruise.com, from the maiden voyage at the end of 2025 and through 2026, the voyages are cruises departing and returning to port in Singapore without calling upon any other ports. Lots of the early sailings already appear to be booked full in all categories except concierge. If you are considering making the long trip over to Singapore to sail the Adventure and want to see more of Asia than the port and what you might see in the distance from the ship, be sure to factor that in to the time you plan to travel.

Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or a travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today! As always, we remind our readers that Walt Disney World Resort theme park tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Florida or eligible for U.S. Military Personnel benefits. Historically, non-Florida residents tend to benefit the most by purchasing tickets in advance (and, of course, being mindful of the rules relevant to those tickets). Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside Disney property stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Walt Disney World Theme Park admissions, and may result in denial of entry. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks.
