Episode 1 – January 11, 2007 – Year of a Million Dreams
It’s our debut show! (Can you tell that it was recorded in the wee hours of the morning?)
We’ve got a lot of stuff coming up in future episodes, but we spent a little time getting you acquainted with what the show is going to be.
Our regular content kicked off with the MousePlanetWatch news segment.
First up was the Walt Disney World news, sponsored by Small World Vacations, MousePlanet’s preferred travel provider. Much of the news came from this past Monday’s Walt Disney World Park Update. The breaking news will be in next week’s Park Update.
In the breaking story on the permit application for Disney’s Contemporary Suites, we mentioned the story in the August 7 WDW Update, which linked to architectural drawings of the new DVC Resort that will be built where the Contemporary Resort’s North Garden Wing now sits. The designs, by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects LLC, were removed from the firm’s web site shortly after the Park Update was published, though they were archived on a forum for DVC members. (The drawings are on the second page of the thread.)
The video of Tigger hitting Jerry Monaco, Jr., is on the WKMG-TV web site. Join the discussion on MousePad here.
The information about the Pirates of the Caribbean: Adventures on Seven Seas Lagoon event are on the Disney Gallery web site.
Registration information for the 15th annual WDW Marathon and the Race for the Taste 10K is on the Wide World of Sports site.
In the Disneyland news segment, a major topic was the new Rockin’ Space Mountain upgrade. We’re looking for your feedback on your opinions of the change. The YouTube videos that we mentioned are here:
Rockin’ Space Mountain:
- Video 1: Poor audio, better video of the new special effects
- Video 2: Better audio, very poor video quality
Rockin’ California Screamin’
- Video: Good audio and video
For what it’s worth, here is a link to the one-millionth post on MousePad.
The only story in the Walt Disney Company news with linkable comment was the four DVDs that were going back into the vault on January 31, which includes the Chronicles of Narnia Extended Edition DVD, which was just reviewed by Lisa Perkis on Tuesday.
Our Tip of the Week was a reminder that snowglobes and other souvenirs containing liquids count toward the allowance that must fit into your one-quart zip top bag. If it won’t fit, either pack it into your checked luggage or ship it home.
Our featured topic this week was a discussion of the pros and cons of the Year of a Million Dreams promotion, and whether it is a good or bad thing. If you’ve got an opinion on this, please let us know.
This week’s Magical Moment was a voice mail from Jana Smith of the Let’s Talk About Disney podcast, where Goofy himself joined the podcast’s MouseFest meet at Goofy’s Barnstormer and rode with her daughter, then participated in a great photo opportunity with them.
Our first contest is a ploy to get you to send us some ideas on how we can improve the show. Each person who sends in a suggestion or comment will receive one entry into the contest. The winner will receive a MousePlanet T-shirt (in their size) and a MousePlanet mug from our new CafePress store. You can send in your suggestions or comments via our email form or via voicemail on our toll-free feedback line (1-866-939-2278). Entries must be received by 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, January 29. The winner will be announced on our February 1 show.
If you want to contribute a story for our Magical Moment segment (and possible inclusion in the Cast Place column here on MousePlanet), you can either use our email form or the toll-free feedback line. (We like when you use the voice mail system, because then we can play it on the show.)
