A long-awaited policy change should thrill Disneyland Magic Key holders. In an email sent this morning, Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino announced that Magic Key holders will be allowed to cancel their theme park reservations the same day, and that no-show penalties will no longer be assessed.

This is a big benefit for both a Magic Key holder who finds that they can’t make it to the park on a day where they had booked a reservation , and also to Magic Key holders who are looking to pick up a same-day reservation on a previously sold-out day. To whatever extent this keeps Magic Key holders who are fighting a cold or flu from visiting a park just to avoid a no-show penalty, this is also great for everyone else in the parks.
Estorino’s email asks Magic Key holders to please still cancel reservations they can’t use so those can be offered to other visitors. Let’s hope everyone heeds that request, and that Disney doesn’t find a need to reinstate the no-show policy.
