runDisney announces another Anaheim hiatus
Just as early registration for the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon weekend opened last week, the company broke the news that those races will be the last held in Anaheim for a while.
The announcement from runDisney said,
Due to upcoming construction impacts, runDisney races at the Disneyland® Resort will be placed on hiatus in 2026 after the conclusion of the 2026 Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend presented by HONDA. We will continue to offer races at Walt Disney World® Resort, as well as virtual offerings.

runDisney announced a similar hiatus in 2017 just prior to the start of construction on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. West coast races resumed in January 2024 with the return of the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.
The final (for now) Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend is scheduled for Thursday, January 29 through Sunday, February 1 2026. Early registration took place last week for Club runDisney members, and the general public can register starting April 29.
Registration opens Tuesday for final runDisney events before hiatus
Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. Pacific time on Tuesday, April 29 for the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon weekend. The event takes place Thursday, January 29 through Sunday, February 1 2026 and includes a variety of events for adults and children. In keeping with the Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration, the 2026 event theme is “Get Happy.”

Event | Date | Price |
Disneyland Yoga | January 29, 2026 | $140 |
Disneyland 5K | January 30, 2026 | $130 |
Disneyland 10K | January 31, 2026 | $185 |
runDisney Kids Races | January 31, 2026 | $45 each |
Disneyland Half Marathon | February 1, 2026 | $270 |
Dumbo Double Dare | January 31 and February 1, 2026 | $450 |
runDisney Health and Fitness Expo | January 29 – 31, 2026 | No Charge |
Given the announcement that these will be the final events in Anaheim for the foreseeable future, and despite another $10 increase in most events, registration is likely to sell out even faster than usual.
To register, visit the runDisney website. As always, we recommend that you are fully prepared with all of your information before registration opens. Make sure you’re already logged into your Disney account, and have all of the details for each person you are trying to register, including legal name, home and email addresses, date of birth, pace time and shirt size. If you need to submit a proof of time for an event, you can do that after you register, so don’t take time to do it when you first register.
runDisney published a video two years ago which gives tips for how to register, but it doesn’t address concerns about how to ensure you get into all of your events if you’re trying to register for multiple races, or how best to register for multiple people (including minors).
Based on my own personal experience with this, it’s best to have every adult handle their own registrations, because entries are not confirmed until you finish and pay. It’s not uncommon to get to checkout and find one or more events have sold out while you were adding your spouse, friends and children.
Storytellers Reopens
Storytellers Cafe reopened at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel earlier this month, and I had an opportunity to visit with my family to check out the renovations. Workers replaced the original buffet counter with an updated version during the remodel, and added new appetizer and dessert stations to either side. Disney also removed some low walls in the center of the restaurant to improve traffic flow through the buffet area.
The extra counter space allows Storytellers Cafe to serve an expanded menu, and includes a self-serve machine which can produce sorbets or ice cream. During our visit the options were wild cherry or apricot sorbet, and both were so good we took full advantage of the all-you-care-to-eat nature of the meal and went back for seconds.
One problem we found with the new layout is that the appetizer and dessert stations create a choke point for both diners trying to help themselves to the new offerings, and for cast members trying to enter or exit the kitchen area.
Character dining is very popular at Storytellers Cafe, with Mickey and friends featured at Mickey’s Tales of Adventure at breakfast and brunch.
Starting May 18, Donald’s Tales of Adventure Dinner Buffet begins, with character dining at dinner and a new BBQ-based menu. Reservations are now open, and at press time were still readily available for opening week.

The unannounced Food Festival
The 2025 Food & Wine Festival may just be a delicious memory, but Disney seems to be kicking off another resort-wide food event.
Starting April 30, visitors will find new breakfast items, salads, entrees, desserts, drinks and snacks at locations throughout Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The Disney Eats Facebook and Instagram accounts have been serving up the news in small bites for the past two weeks, and we’ve compiled a full checklist below so you don’t miss anything.

If you believe you are eligible for this offer, but have not received an official communication, be sure to check with your captain or department head.

- 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon weekend –Thursday, January 29 through Sunday, February 1 2026. Registration opens April 22, 2025 for Club runDisney members, and April 29 to the general public.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Tickets, Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 9, 2024.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident 3-Day Ticket Offer
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three days between January 1 and May 15, 2025 for as little as $199.
There are four versions of the Special Southern California Resident Ticket, starting at $199:
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket – $199 per person
- 3-day Park Hopper ticket – $289 per person
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $295 per person
- 3-day, Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $385 per person
Unlike the 2024 offer, the base version of this ticket is valid 7 days a week, not just weekdays. Even better, the January 1st start date means many visitors can use this ticket to catch the last few days of this year’s Holidays at the Disneyland Resort festivities and the Festival of Holidays before they end on January 6.
The fine print of these offers changes slightly each season, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase to get the most value for your money. We note that residents of Northern Baja California are again excluded from this offer.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 1 and wait until May 15 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it’s probably best to purchase early so you’re ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.

Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you’re a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

2025 Military Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 1 through December 27, 2025. You can book now through December 23, 2025, and travel must be completed by December 28, 2024.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (800) 453-4911 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category. Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, or 2-or 3-Bedroom Villas are excluded from the offer, and this offer can not be combined with any other discount.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
