Halloween Time begins Friday
The floral Mickey planter has been updated with a Halloween motif, the giant Mickey pumpkin is in place on Main Street, and fall colors hang from the lightposts on Main Street. It must be Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort. The celebration kicks off Friday morning, and officially runs through Halloween night.
There is not much “new” this year for Halloween Time, but it’s worth a reminder that Haunted Mansion Holiday is using a virtual queue for everyone this year, due to construction around the Mansion. There is no standby line. Yes, the ride has already been open for weeks, but for those who are visiting just for Halloween Time, here’s a refresher:
Disneyland will open the virtual queue for Haunted Mansion Holiday twice each day. The first opportunity will be at 7:00 a.m., and is only for visitors who made a park reservation to start their day at Disneyland. You do not need to be inside a theme park to join the earlier virtual queue.
A second window opens at Noon, to give visitors who may be park hopping after starting their day at Disney California Adventure a chance to get on the ride. Note that your entire party must already have entered a theme park before Noon to join the second virtual queue, though you don’t need to still be physically in the park to join.
Either way, you want to link the tickets for your entire travel party well before you try to enter the virtual queue. This is an important step if you want your entire party in the same boarding group once the virtual queue opens, and will allow each person to try request a boarding group for the entire party. (We should note that Disney warns visitors not to do this, saying “If multiple people in your party try to join the virtual queue simultaneously, that may inhibit your ability to join a group.”)
As soon as the virtual queue opens, your designated person will select “Virtual Queues” on the home screen of the Disneyland app, then select “Haunted Mansion Holiday.” The user will select their party from a list of people to whom they are already linked in the Disneyland smartphone app, then choose to add their party to the boarding group. The app gives you your assigned boarding group, and lets you monitor the status of boarding groups.
As always, you can only enter the virtual queue once per day. You can be in no more than two virtual queues at the same time – either one ride and one show (like World of Color), or two shows. At the moment, virtual queue is only in use for World of Color and Haunted Mansion Holiday, so there shouldn’t be any conflicts.
Food is another big attraction for Halloween Time, and there’s almost too much to take in this year. The Foodie Guide to Halloween Time lists a whopping 150 food and beverage items in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, which does not count the items offered at the three resort hotels, at the various candy kitchens, or in Downtown Disney. Fortunately a large number of these items will be available until November 14 or even beyond, so you can pace yourself.
The holiday novelty items, like popcorn buckets and sippers, will also be released on Friday, and are sure to draw lines to every popcorn cart in the resort.
Mickey’s Trick and Treat show is not new, but this is the first time it has been offered during normal park hours instead of limited to Oogie Boogie Bash. The show temporarily replaces the Disney Jr. Dance Party in the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land, and is presented throughout the day.
Plaza de la Familia and the The Musical World of Coco!
The big announcements at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event including news of a new attraction based on Pixar’s “Coco” coming to Disney California Adventure. While we wait for ground to break on that project, last week Disney announced a new “Coco” show to debut on August 30.
“The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate The Musical World of Coco!” appears to be a re-staging of “A Musical Celebration of Coco,” which has been performed at Disney California Adventure during Plaza de la Familia since 2017. The show has changed a few times since its introduction, and this version adds “colorful representations of the spirit guides, Dante and Pepita.”
Plaza de la Familia runs August 23 through November 2024, and features feature a holiday menu at the Paradise Garden Grill, a Tree of Life photo opportunity, and craft stations for children.
Refurbishment update
Between the Haunted Mansion refurbishment, the rebranding of Splash Mountain and the annual maintenance on E-Ticket attractions, there’s a lot of construction going on at Disneyland right now – and that doesn’t even count the sprucing up for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary next summer.
This week we’ve seen the walls come down outside the Haunted Mansion, and the Critter Country – I mean, Bayou Country – entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has reopened. Yes, the Bayou Country name is now official, as heard on the recorded spiel played on the Mark Twain Riverboat.
With that, Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes have reopened, as have the Bayou Country restrooms underneath the recently renamed Country Bear Barbecue Jamboree. The restaurant has not opened, but Disney has released the new menu and it looks good (with the possible exception of the pickle lemonade). I’ll be thrilled if they’re using chef Chris’ coleslaw recipe from the much-lamented Big Thunder Ranch BBQ.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure does not open until November 15, but there’s a chance that other portions of Bayou Country could open before then, including the restaurant, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and the two renamed gift shops.
Also opening on November 15 is “it’s a small world” Holiday. “It’s a small world” will close on September 16 to install the holiday overlay. The ride will close again on January 21, 2025 to remove the overlay, and for an extended refurbishment. Disney says the ride will reopen in Spring of 2025.
The Jungle Cruise will close on September 16 for refurbishment, and the reopening date has not been set.
Disney has filed for permits for a renovation of the Plaza Inn, and the restaurant appears to be closing on October 2. This may explain why the location did not offer a dining package for the Halloween Screams fireworks show this year as it has in the past. As of publication the Disneyland calendar was only posted through October 19, so we don’t know how long the restaurant will close.
Finally, The Orange County Register reports that Disneyland’s Peter Pan attraction will be renovated to remove “negative stereotypes” from the ride, similar to changes made to the Walt Disney World version this month. In a statement to KTLA, Disneyland officials said,
“Imagineers have a longstanding history of making updates and enhancements to attractions and experiences, so they remain fresh and relevant. We consider ourselves constant learners and as we identify ways that can make our attractions and experiences more authentic and relatable, and our stories connect more deeply to our guests, we make thoughtful changes.”
Reservations open for Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Halloween & Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace viewing package
Reservations are open for Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Halloween, the second year of this holiday overlay.
Breakfast is $65 per adult; $36 per child age 3-9, plus tax and tip. Breakfast is served 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. with brunch offered from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The menu is the same for both meals.
Dinner is served starting at 4:00 p.m. Starting August 23 the price is $75 per adult and $39 per child, plus tax and tip.
Reservations open 60 days in advance through the Disneyland website or mobile app.
Reservations for the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace in Disneyland have opened for August and September, though there is no specific mention of the Halloween Screams fireworks on the reservation website. That may explain why the offering is still available for this Friday night, the first night of the Halloween show. Tickets are $70 per person.
Porto’s confirms Downtown Disney location
There’s been a lot of speculation over the past two years about whether Porto’s Bakery would actually build the Downtown Disney location which was announced at the 2022 D23 Expo. Two years after the original announcement, Porto’s confirmed the project was moving forward as part of a press release announcing their partnership with a digital ordering platform. The release noted that Porto’s has “six locations across Southern California and a highly anticipated seventh location coming to Downtown Disney in Anaheim in 2025.”
There was no information given about the location of the new restaurant, though it was previously reported that Porto’s would build a new restaurant on the footprint of the former La Brea Bakery in Downtown Disney. That restaurant closed in early 2023, and since then has housed a “temporary” Earl of Sandwich location, as well as the proof-of-concept Earl of Sandwich Tavern.
Earl was supposed to relocate to the west side of Downtown Disney last November, allowing demolition to begin on the La Brea Bakery space, but that project appeared to be put on hold. Even as a new Earl of Sandwich trailer appeared in Downtown Disney, employees at the restaurant said they didn’t know when – or even if – they were moving. Rumors swirled last spring that the deal had been cancelled, and Porto’s would not be opening after all.
The sticking point appeared to be Disney’s requirement that all Downtown Disney partners open their doors 365 days a year, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. According to the Porto’s Facebook account, they are closed both holidays “by tradition,” and operate reduced hours several holidays each year, including Easter, the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
It seems some sort of agreement had been reached last month, when Porto’s helped commemorate Disneyland’s anniversary with boxes of pastries for cast members who worked that day. The Earl of Sandwich pop-up trailer is open, though there is still no word on when they may vacate their current spot. For their part, the Earl of Sandwich is supposed to be moving into a new two-story location on the west side of Downtown Disney.
Disney Vacation Club of Tomorrow?
Disney has filed for a permit to build a $1M Disney Vacation Club model room on the second floor of the Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. The 1400-square-foot display would join the existing Star View Station, a Disney Vacation Club member lounge which opened in 2023.
As far as I know, this would be the first Disney Vacation Club Preview Center inside a theme park. A Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Center just opened in the renamed Golden Vine House inside Disney California Adventure last month, but that is mostly a sales office and does not have room models. The new Gateway to Discovery center just opened in Disney Springs in Orlando, offering room tours to interested buyers, but you usually need to visit a Disney Vacation Club property in person to tour rooms.
Personally I’m curious to see if this is just a test, and whether we see a similar addition to Walt Disney World.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

There is no option to upgrade this ticket to a one-day park hopper ticket or a multi-day ticket. 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer – June 10 – September 26, 2024
Visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three weekdays between June 10 and September 26, 2024 for as little as $149 for ages 3-9, or $249 for ages 10 and older using a new discounted ticket which goes on sale May 29, 2024. That represents a savings of up to $219 off the regular price of a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket for children ages 3-9. The adult offer is a $141 discount, and is the same price than the summer 2023 deal.
You can also choose between a ticket good Monday through Thursday OR a slightly more expensive ticket good any day of the week. There are also options to add park hopping and Disney Genie+ service to your ticket at the time of purchase.
This new offer differs from past discouts discounts, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase.
The 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $149 for ages 3-9; $249 for ages 10 and older. Three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
- The any day ticket – starting at $199 for ages 3-9; $299, for ages 10 and older. Three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
You can use every day of the 3-Day Disneyland Ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day unless you add the park-hopper option ($70 per ticket)
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 10 and wait until September 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that reservations for this category of ticket are not guaranteed for any particular dates, and that a date may sell out in this ticket category though other ticket types have reservations of available. It is probably best to purchase early and make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
Tickets expire on September 26, 2024, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.
May purchase up to 15 tickets per eligible person per day. Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions. Subject to restrictions and change or cancellation without notice.

Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member, provided the spouse stays in one of the rooms booked.
