Kathryn Hahn narrates Candlelight
Award-winning actress Kathryn Hahn, perhaps best known to Disney fans for her role as Agatha Harkness in the Marvel franchise, was the celebrity narrator for the 2024 Candlelight Processional at Disneyland this past Saturday and Sunday. Here are two photos from Sunday night, as well as a video of Harkness’ closing remarks following the final performance of the weekend.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to drop virtual queue this week
Beginning Tuesday, December 10, Disneyland visitors will no longer need to register for a virtual queue to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Bayou Country. The newly-refurbished attraction will instead offer riders the choice of purchasing the Lightning Lane Multi Pass add-on to reserve a ride time through the Disneyland app, or waiting in a physical standby queue.
Disney used their virtual queue process to handle crowds for the attraction when it first opened in November, releasing up to three batches of ride slots per day. This seems to be the quickest Disney has dropped the virtual queue for a new attraction.
“Celebrate Happy”
In a video posted to Instagram last Thursday morning, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock announced that the theme of the 70th anniversary promotion is “Celebrate Happy.”
Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebration will feature a brand-new “World of Color Happiness” show at Disney California Adventure, and the return of the Paint the Night Parade to Main Street, U.S.A. Potrock and the Disney Parks Blog also shared concept art of the 70th anniversary Castle overlay, and confirmed that the “Wondrous Journeys” fireworks will return to Disneyland.
Of course Disneyland can’t celebrate an anniversary without a slew of food and beverage offerings, which will be previewed in coming days. As big as the 70th anniversary looks to be, Disney still has to save some sizzle for the park’s 75th anniversary in 2030.
Haunted Mansion returns in January
Fans of the classic Haunted Mansion attraction will want to make a park reservation for Saturday, January 18. That’s the day the Haunted Mansion will reopen from a brief refurbishment to remove the Nightmare Before Christmas holiday overlay, and the first time visitors will be able to see the original attraction since August, 2023. That’s when the ride was transformed into the holiday version for the 2023 season, after which the attraction closed for an extensive refurbishment. When it reopened earlier this year, the Haunted Mansion returned in it’s holiday form, so it’s been quite a wait for Mansion fans.
The Haunted Mansion refurbishment included an expanded outdoor queue and a new wheelchair accessible exit from the ride. The Haunted Mansion Holiday version will remain open until January 6, 2025, and the classic version will reopen less than two weeks later.
Disneyland Drops New 2025 SoCal Resident Discount
[Editors Note: this is a recap of an article published last week on MousePlanet. For a deeper dive into this discount please see this article]
Last week Disneyland announced a new offer for residents of Southern California that will make visiting in early 2025 a lot more affordable. This offer is surprisingly much less expensive than the 2024 version, and partly overlaps the Kids’ Special Ticket offer so families save even more.
SoCal Resident 3-Day Ticket Offer
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three days between January 1 and May 15, 2025 for as little as $199 using a new discounted ticket which went on sale today, and is also available from our travel partner Get Away Today.
There are four versions of the Special Southern California Resident Ticket, starting at $199:
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket – $199 per person
- 3-day Park Hopper ticket – $289 per person
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $295 per person
- 3-day, Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $385 per person
Unlike the 2024 offer, the base version of this ticket is valid 7 days a week, not just weekdays. Even better, the January 1st start date means many visitors can use this ticket to catch the last few days of this year’s Holidays at the Disneyland Resort festivities and the Festival of Holidays before they end on January 6.
The fine print of these offers changes slightly each season, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase to get the most value for your money. We note that residents of Northern Baja California are again excluded from this offer.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 1 and wait until May 15 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it’s probably best to purchase early so you’re ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
Disneyland Shares 2025 Events Schedule
[Editors Note: this is a recap of an article published last week on MousePlanet. For a deeper dive into the 2025 schedule, please see this article.]
Last year the DIsneyland Resort surprised everyone by announcing the entire lineup of festivals and seasonal celebrations for the year all at once, rather than stringing the announcements out for months. This was a huge boon to vacation planners, who had the information they needed to plan their trips around their favorite events and festivities.
I am so happy to see that the Resort has done it again, bringing us the full 2025 lineup in one place. This is even more impactful in 2025, as the resort prepares for an 18-month celebration to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Disneyland park. Let’s dive into the calendar.

Oogie Boogie Bash Expands to 31 Nights in 2025
[Editors Note: this is a recap of an article published last week on MousePlanet. For more about Oogie Boogie Bash and what changes may be coming for 2025, please see this article.]
Disneyland has announced the 2025 schedule for the popular after-hours Oogie Boogie Bash, though they have yet to release pricing or registration details. The event expands to 31 nights in 2025, so it’s much more likely that you’ll be able to get tickets to the event than in prior years.
We expect Inspire Magic Key holders will have the first chance to purchase tickets whenever they do go on sale, followed by all Magic Key holders and then the general public.
Tickets to the 2024 event ranged from $134 to $189 per person, depending on the night. Disney may keep that pricing consistent for 2025 with so many additional nights on offer, but we’ll have to wait and see. In past years Disney has also offered a VIP Tour with admission to Oogie Boogie Bash at a (much higher) extra cost.
2025 dates:
- Aug. 17, 19, 21, 24, 26, 28, 31
- Sept. 2, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, 30
- Oct. 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, 26, 28, 31
Red Car Trolley ends service February 8, 2025
February 8 marks the 24th anniversary of Disney California Adventure, and sadly also the last day of operation for the Red Car Trolley. Disney is demolishing the backstage building which houses the trolley at night as part of the Avengers Campus expansion project, and has sadly decided to eliminate the vehicles from the park entirely. Red Car Trolley fans have a few more weeks to ride before the cars fade back into history.
Walt Disney – A Magical Life to debut in May
The year-long refurbishment of the Main Street Opera House will conclude with the debut of Walt Disney – A Magical Life on May 16, 2025. The new show will feature the first Audio-Animatronic figure of Walt Disney himself, and will play in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.”
The new addition to the Main Street Opera House was announced at the 2024 D23 Expo in August. The stage will include a recreation of Walt Disney’s office in Burbank, CA.
Registration still open for select Halloween Half Marathon Weekend events
Nearly a week after registration opened for the 2025 Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon weekend, all events except the 5K run and the 10K race are still open, which is frankly unheard of in the modern runDisney world.
The second Halloween-themed event takes place September 4-7, 2025 and includes a variety of events for adults and children. The 2025 event is based on the Disney villains, with each race tied to a different character. Prices for all events are up $10 from the January races. If the truly unthinkable happens and the races have not sold out before April 21, 2025, prices will increase an another $10 per race.

This and That…
…Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens this Friday, December 13 from a brief refurbishment.
…This is a fairly niche topic, but if you’re in the market to get any of your Disney apparel, accessories or ear hats embroidered at a Disneyland Resort shop, be sure to have them embroidered the same day you buy the item. In the past Disney would allow customers to bring in previously-purchased items to be embroidered at a later date, provided the customer had the original receipt, the item was new with tags, and the item was still available for sale at the Resort. As of a recent change, cast members can not embroider an item which was not purchased that same day.
…It’s that time of year, and Disney has reduce their 2024 souvenir collection to make room for the 2025 collection.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Tickets, Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 9, 2024.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
