Disneyland Resort Update for January 20, 2026

January 20, 2026 by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

Lunar New Year celebration begins Friday

The Disneyland Resort honors the Year of the Horse starting this Friday when the Lunar New Year celebration returns to Disney California Adventure. The month-long event incorporates Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese traditions in a lineup of entertainment, food offerings, and, of course, Disney merchandise.

As always, the food offerings are a major focus of this festival, and last week Disney issued their Foodie Guide to the event. As was the case last year, it looks like some of the best dishes of the celebration are going to be found outside of the six Festival Marketplace booths, so it’s worth reading the full menu so you don’t miss anything delicious.

Seeing the Disney characters in their festival attire is always fun, and this year there are multiple photo opportunities for visitors. Mickey and Minnie will again don the Korean-inspired hanbok outfits they debuted last year. Goofy and Clarabelle will be in Vietnamese-inspired aó dài outfits, and Donald and Daisy will show off their Chinese-inspired hanfu outfits. Horace Horsecollar, star of this Year of the Horse, will also appear in a Chinese-inspired outfit. You will find the characters in Paradise Gardens Park.

Mulan’s Lunar New Year procession is an annual favorite. Showtimes for this have not yet been published in the Disneyland website. Hurry Home – A Lunar New Year Celebration also returns this Friday before World of Color Happiness. Again, the Lunar New Year entertainment schedule has not been updated on the Disneyland website, but World of Color is scheduled at 9:00 p.m. on Friday.

Sip & Savor math

Visitors to Disney California Adventure can purchase a Sip and Savor Pass for the 2026 Lunar New Year Festival, offering six tasting portions of selected food and beverage items from participating locations. As we do for each Festival, we’ve run the numbers to see if the pass is a good value, and to help you get the most of it.

The 2026 pass increased by $1 this year, and is now $49 to the general public (average $8.17 per dish), and $46 to Disneyland Resort Magic Key holders (average $7.67 per dish). Because sales tax isn’t applied to the price of the Sip and Savor Pass but is to the food items, you also get additional savings when you use the pass because you aren’t paying sales tax. The passport itself is a plastic credential strung on a lanyard, with different lanyard for Magic Key holders.

Again this year, there are three different versions of the pass itself, featuring Disney characters wearing outfits inspired by Chinese, Vietnamese or Korean culture. You choose which version you want when you purchase the pass.

The pass is valid for all food items and non-alcoholic beverages at the six Festival Marketplace booths, as well as for “tasting portions” of select items at participating restaurants and carts around Disney California Adventure.

When using the pass, you “save” every time you use a credit for an item priced at $8.17 / $7.67 or more, which isn’t difficult with some Marketplace entrees reaching $9.25 last year. Remember, every $7.00 dessert or non-alcoholic beverage you buy with a tab eats into that savings.

You should also pay attention to what is considered a “tasting postion” when you use a Sip & Savor credit – you may find that it makes more sense to just pay cash and get the full entree portion, especially if you’re sharing with friends. For example, the Strawberry Green Tea Bread Pudding from Aunt Cass Cafe is $8.49 on the; the Sip & Savor portion will be smaller and not that much less expansive.

With menu prices rising faster than the Sip & Savor pass, it’s worth getting one this year if you plan to truly feast your way through the Festival, but pay attention to prices and be prepared to pay cash for items where it doesn’t make sense to waste an $8 credit.

Disneyland expands the Galaxy’s Edge timeline

Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Han Solo will join Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca on Batuu starting April 29, 2026, when Disneyland “rolls back in time several decades” the temporal setting of the Black Spire Outpost to the time of the original Star Wars trilogy.

This doesn’t mean that all of the characters who currently visit Batuu are leaving for good. Instead, it appears that Disney will keep characters from different eras geographically separated. Leia and Han Solo will stick close to the Millenium Falcon, where new Smuggler’s Run missions debut in late May.

Ahsoka Tano, The Mandalorian and Grogu will be found near the marketplace. Rey might be found near Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, as the Resistance Camp are remains in “a time inspired by the Age of the Resistance.”

The shift in time brings other changes on Batuu. Disney notes that Oga’s Cantina, First Order Cargo, Droid Depot and Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will all see changes to bring them into the era of the Galactic Civil War. We do not know if the extended refurbishment of Oga’s Cantina which begins this week is related to these changes.

Another major change is the introduction of Star Wars theme music from composer and Disney Legend John Williams throughout the land. Presently Williams’ music is heard only in the entrance tunnels to the land.

At this point, the changes will take place only at the Disneyland version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The Walt Disney World version of the land remains set sometime between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Sweethearts Nites begin this week

The first Disneyland After Dark events of 2026 kick off this Thursday with the return of Sweethearts Nite. The after-hours event is sold out for 2026, but last week Disney released a teaser of the special food offerings created for the parties.

For those not going to the event, note that Disneyland closes at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sweethearts’ Nite officially runs from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., but event guests can start entering Disneyland as early as 6:00 p.m. Our best advice for non-party goers is to plan to eat dinner in DCA or Downtown Disney, or place your Disneyland mobile orders early in the day so you’re not competing with event guests for dinner spots.

This and That

…At press time, all four tiers of Magic Key passes are still available for purchase. Disney resumed sales of Magic Keys last week, adding a new Explore Key Pass to the lineup and retiring the Enchant Key Pass.

…The World Famous Jungle Cruise was originally scheduled to be closed for refurbishment February 17-21, but last week Disneyland updated the refurbishment calendar and removed the reopening date. At this time, the Jungle Cruise will be closed at least through March 2, and possibly longer. A permit filed with the city of Anaheim includes rock work and plumbing improvements for the opening-day attraction.

…The Haunted Mansion reopens this Friday, January 23 following a brief refurbishment to remove the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay.

…Three refurbishments in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge begin this Tuesday, January 20. They include the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction, Oga’s Cantina, and Jat Kaa’s Coolers, a Droid-powered snack cart. Reopening dates have not been announced for either Rise of the Resistance or Oga’s Cantina. Jay Kaa’s Coolers is expected to reopen February 14.

…Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is expected to reopen Thursday, January 22 following a brief refurbishment.

…Jumpin’ Jellyfish has been added to the refurbishment calendar starting February 23. Reopening date not published.

  • The Holidays at Disneyland – Begin November 18, 2026

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Tickets, Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 8, 2025.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

California Resident Park Hopper Ticket

The California Resident Park Hopper ticket is $249, a savings of more than 50% when compared to the new price ($526) of a 3-day park hopper ticket. The ticket is valid for all ages 3 and older, for visits between January 1 through May 21, 2026. Our travel partners at Get Away Today are offering the same ticket for only $204.

Theme park reservations are required to use this ticket, and we strongly recommend making them as soon as you purchase the ticket so you have the best selection of dates.

The best news is that there is no “fuse” on this ticket, and no blockout dates. You can space out your visits to catch the holiday decorations and entertainment at Disneyland before they end on January 7, return in February for the Lunar New Year celebration, and visit one more time to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival.

It is really important to note that everyone purchasing and/or using the ticket must be a resident of California. This means you can’t purchase them for out-of-state friends and family, and everyone over the age of 18 should be prepared to show government-issued photo ID at entry.
