Disneyland Resort Update for January 5, 2026

January 5, 2026 by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

New year, reduced perks for hotel guests

Disneyland visitors line up at the main entrance gates before park opening. MousePlanet file photo.

Last August Disneyland announced a major change to the Theme Park Perks offered to those who stay at Disneyland Resort Hotels, and those changes are now in effect today, January 5, 2026,

The most significant change is the end of the Early Entry program, which previously allowed guests of the three Disneyland Resort hotels 30-minute early entry to a designated theme park every day of their hotel stay.

Disneyland Resort Hotel guests will instead receive one Lightning Lane entry to a Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction during their Resort stay. To be clear, instead of having 30 minutes of extra time in one of the theme parks each day, hotel guests will now receive one Lightning Lane pass per stay. One night or 6, the perk is the same.

As of January 5, 2026, Disneyland Resort Hotel guests receive one Lightning Lane entry during their stay as part of an updated Park Perks program, instead of early park entry. MousePlanet file photo.

For those arriving this week, please note that this new benefit is available starting at check in. Guests who use the Online Check-in system prior to their arrival can access the Lightning Lane pass via the Disneyland mobile app as early as 7:00 a.m. on arrival day. Guests who do not use Online Check-in will not be able to access the Lightning Lane pass until they have arrived at the hotel and checked in in person.

The Lightning Lane pass does not need to be scheduled in advance – visitors can simply show the barcode from the Disneyland mobile app at the Lightning Lane entrance to their selected attraction at any time. You will need to ensure that hotel reservations, theme park tickets and park reservations for all members of your party are linked through the Disneyland app to use this benefit.

Another change mostly impacts visitors staying at the Pixar Place Hotel. The special entrance which provided easy access into Disney California Adventure is now closed. A cast member we spoke with via the online chat on Disneyland.com said that guests staying at the Pixar Place Hotel may still use the dedicated entrance from the Grand Californian Hotel into Disney California Adventure, which involves passing through the Grand Californian lobby. We’d warn that this may change if the Grand Californian Hotel sees too much traffic from PPH visitors, but we’ll keep an eye on it.

Paint the Night dining package returns January 30

The Paint the Night Dining Package at Plaza Inn returns at the end of January. The package offers dinner, dessert and access to a reserved viewing area for the return of the popular Paint the Night parade. The package is available January 30 to August 9, 2026.

Both the menu and the pricing have been updated for 2026

The package is now $58 for ages 10 and up, (a $3 increase), and $28 for ages 3-9 (a $4 jump). We also note that this package used to specifically include “choice of one fountain beverage,” which is no longer listed on the website.

The adult meal includes:

  • Herb-roasted chicken
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Buttered haricot verts served with caramelized onion sauce
  • Hawaiian roll
  • Raspberry chocolate tart

The childs menu includes:

  • Chicken tenders
  • Mac and cheese
  • Vegetables
  • Applesauce
  • Hawaiian roll
  • Dessert

Plant-based options are available for both meals, though details were not available on the Disneyland website.

Credit card guarantee is required at the time of reservation, and a $10 cancellation fee applies if you do not cancel your reservation at least one day in advance. When you arrive at your reservation time, you will pay for and pick up your meal, and receive your voucher for the viewing area. You can then eat at any open table at the Plaza Inn.

I want to point out that the reserved viewing is for the first performance of the day only, and the viewing section is “mainly standing room or ground seating and is separate from the dining location.” Disney says that, “Due to overwhelming demand, special seating requests or preferences will not be accommodated except for wheelchair accessibility.”

More details about the Explore Magic Key on sale next week

The Magic Key sales cycle continues next week when Disneyland resumes sales of “select” Magic Keys on January 13, 2026. This includes the existing Imagine Key, which is exclusive to residents of Southern California, and a brand-new Explore Key, replacing the current Enchant Key.

The new Explore Key is priced at $999, a $25 increase from the Enchant Key. Disney says the key allows visitors to “explore the parks on select dates during each season, including summer!” Disney has just released the blockout calendar for this new pass, and it’s definitely a change from the Enchant Key. For 2026, the Enchant Key has 141 blockouts days, mostly Saturdays and Sundays, but also the entire period from June 5 through August 2.

By comparison, the Explore Key has 110 blockout dates. The added 31 days of admission come in June and July, where the pass is valid Sunday through Thursday, with the lone exception of July 5, 2026.

At $999 nobody is going to argue that the Explore Key is a value, but the added summer dates make it much more attractive for families.

The blockout calendar for the new Explore Key for July through December, 2026.

Disneyland resumed sales of the top two Magic Key tiers, Inspire ($1,899) and Believe ($1,474), on November 4, after increasing their prices in October. The Enchant and Imagine Keys, which were not impacted by the last price increase, were available for sale “while supplies last,” but have since sold out. A Disneyland rep tells us there will be no price increase for the Imagine Key next week.

Magic Key holders who already have the Imagine Key can renew it within their normal renewal window, and are not impacted by these on-sale dates. Disney will not sell or renew the Enchant Key after January 13, 2026, but it remains valid through the original expiration date.

Those who currently have an Enchant Key which expires before January 12, 2026 can renew it for one more year. If the key expires on or after January 13, they can move to a different pass tier when it comes time to renew, including the new Explore Key.

Finally, those who currently have the Imagine or Enchant Key can upgrade to the new Explore Key starting January 13 by paying the full price difference. The Magic Key will still retain the same expiration date, but if you have an Enchant Key with a fall expiration date, paying $25 to add 31 summer days is an easy decision.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Tickets, Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 8, 2025.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

California Resident Park Hopper Ticket

The California Resident Park Hopper ticket is $249, a savings of more than 50% when compared to the new price ($526) of a 3-day park hopper ticket. The ticket is valid for all ages 3 and older, for visits between January 1 through May 21, 2026. Our travel partners at Get Away Today are offering the same ticket for only $204.

Theme park reservations are required to use this ticket, and we strongly recommend making them as soon as you purchase the ticket so you have the best selection of dates.

The best news is that there is no “fuse” on this ticket, and no blockout dates. You can space out your visits to catch the holiday decorations and entertainment at Disneyland before they end on January 7, return in February for the Lunar New Year celebration, and visit one more time to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival.

It is really important to note that everyone purchasing and/or using the ticket must be a resident of California. This means you can’t purchase them for out-of-state friends and family, and everyone over the age of 18 should be prepared to show government-issued photo ID at entry.

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.

Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you’re a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
