Disneyland Celebrates 70

There wasn’t a 24 hour party to honor Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, but the celebration started well before dawn on Thursday as thousands of cast members gathered inside the park for a pre-opening celebration and group photo.
The Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger and Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro were on hand for the cast celebration, and also to ceremoniously ring the New York Stock Exchange opening bell.

In lieu of the typical anniversary “moment” on Main Street, Disneyland presented a special extended version of the Celebrate Happy Cavalcade. Led by the Disneyland band, the processional included two members of “Club 55,” cast members who worked Disneyland’s opening day, as well as the recipient of the 170,000th wish granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

We met Walt on Main Street
By the time Walt Disney – A Magical Life opened at Disneyland on Thursday, it seems a large number of people had already made up their minds about the new show, which features the first audio-animatronic figure of Walt Disney. Online reaction to photos released by Disney and others following media previews were swift and snarky. “That doesn’t look like Walt!” “Is that supposed to be Mr. Whipple?” “Did John Ratzenberger make another cameo?”

To get this out of the way, no, that isn’t the best likeness of Walt Disney. It’s a little too round in places, a little too square in others, and the eyebrows are definitely oversized. If you stare at side-by-side photos of Walt Disney and this new figure, you can pick out a dozen discrepancies, and for days before the show opened that’s pretty much what some people did.
After the attraction opened on Thursday, and the commentary changed. Post-show opinions were generally positive. Because once you’re in the theater, after you’ve heard the welcome by Bob Iger and you’ve watched the segment of “One Man’s Dream” which was adapted to serve as an introduction for the figure, the question really isn’t, “does that look like Walt Disney?” The question for the viewer is, “does it feel like you’re in the room with Walt Disney?”

For me, as someone who never met Walt in person, the answer was “it’s as close as I’ll ever come.” Sitting seven rows away from the figure, I wasn’t focused on eyebrows or jowls or cheeks. I was experiencing the whole show, and it’s an effective package. I strongly recommend coming in with an open mind.

Apart from seeing the new animatronic figure, a trip into the Main Street Opera House is a must for Disney fans. A new gallery exhibit called Evolution of a Dream features dozens of objects and illustrations, and gives visitors an up-close and personal look at several animatronic figures, including the Barker Bird and Jose from Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. During the crush of opening day it was nearly impossible to get a good look at the exhibit, but even a day later the exhibit was readily accessible.

$70 Ticket Offer for Anaheim Residents
In a repeat of a popular offer from the last anniversary, Anaheim residents can visit Disneyland for just $70.
The Anaheim Resident Ticket Offer went on sale July 17, and is valid for visits between August 4 and September 25, 2025. The one-day, one-park ticket offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for just $70 per person, ages 3 and older. You can upgrade this ticket to a one-day park-hopper ticket for $34 more, and also add Lightning Lane Multi Pass for an additional fee.
The catch is that you need to be a resident of the city of Anaheim to take advantage of this offer, and this year these special tickets can only be purchased by phone. Call (844) 695-1240 and select “vacation planning.” Your payment method must have an Anaheim address in zip codes 92801 through 92809, 92812, 92814 through 92817, 92825, 92850 and 92899.
We also want to note that the terms and conditions state, “Sales may be paused or terminated at any time.” In 2024, Disney ended sales of the Anaheim resident ticket two weeks prior to the official end of the promotion, so we recommend purchasing the tickets as early as you can to avoid disappointment.
Eligible residents can purchase up to eight (8) tickets per person, per day, but each person who uses a ticket must show proof of residency in an eligible zip code. An Anaheim resident is not permitted to purchase tickets on behalf of others who are not Anaheim residents. This means everyone in your party (18 and older) should come prepared to show proof of residency in the eligible ZIP codes to use this promotional offer.
It’s also important to note that theme park reservations are required to use these tickets – you can’t just buy them and walk right in without a reservation. Disney recommends checking the reservations availability calendar before you purchase the tickets, and make your reservations immediately to secure the dates you want.
Update on the Costco Disneyland Ticket Offer
In May we shared details of a discounted admission ticket available only at Costco stores in four west coast states – California, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Now in July, readers have reported seeing the same offer at Costco warehouse stores in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and Hawaii. We have not yet had a sighting reported in Utah – please email us at parkupdates@mouseplanet.com if you’ve seen this deal at a Costco store in Utah.
The $450 ticket is a fully-loaded three-day ticket, including Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Park Hopper, valid for ages 3 and older. The Costco deal comes with a $30 Disney Dining Gift Card, which can be used during your visit.A standard multi-day ticket with the same perks would run $601, so this is a great deal if you like to purchase upgraded tickets. The ticket is valid through December 19, and theme park reservations are required.
New Zootopia window on Main Street
A new animated window has debuted on Main Street, outside The Emporium. The window is based on the film “Zootopia,” and features the weasel chase scene through Little Rodentia. At intervals a weasel skates through the tiny town, followed by officer Judy Hopps, as all of the residents of Little Rodentia tremble in fear. This is a very detailed scene, and a close examination of the tiny residential windows will yield some charming surprises.
These animated windows are a Disneyland tradition, and a new window is always welcome. We noted that a second Emporium window is currently covered, so we’re expecting another window to debut in the near future.
Mermaid tiki mug release Thursday
The Disneyland 70th Celebration Mermaid Lagoon Mug will be released thir Thursday, July 24 via Mobile Order at the Disneyland Hotel. The mug is $80, and is available to reserve starting at 6:00 a.m. (Look for the Trader Sam’s Mug Release listing) Mugs can be picked up between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom, and the artist will be on hand to sign purchases.
Any remaining mugs will be available at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar starting July 25, while supplies last.

…A new, exclusive peach Dole Whip is available for a limited time at The Tropical Hideaway at Disneyland. We tried the new creation last week, and it is delicious. We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Tickets, Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 9, 2024.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Anaheim Resident Ticket
The Anaheim Resident Ticket Offer went on sale this week, and is valid for visits between August 4 and September 25, 2025.
Find full details here.
Disneyland Anniversary Ticket
Fans can visit Disneyland up to four times during the 70th anniversary for as little as $100 per day with the Disneyland Anniversary Ticket.
The tickets are valid for visits during the first months of the 70th anniversary celebration, May 16 through August 14, 2025. You can purchase 3-day park tickets for $360 per person, or 4-day park tickets for $400. Pricing is the same for all ages 3 and older. As always, you can add on optional Park Hopper and/or Lightning Lane Multi Pass service upgrades for an extra charge.
Even better, there is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission the day you buy it and wait until August to use the remaining admission days if you wish. However, you must make a theme park reservation for each day you wish to use this ticket, and Disney will set aside only a limited number of reservations for this ticket type each day.
As with the prior offer, the terms state, “Reservation availability for these offer tickets is not guaranteed for any date and reservations may be difficult to get for any particular date, especially as the ticket expiration date approaches. To ensure best availability, make reservations early.” From past experience, it will be difficult to get reservations the last weeks of this offer unless you plan well in advance.
Tickets available on the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet’s travel partner Get Away Today. Book online at Get Away Today or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, and be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet.

Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, or 2-or 3-Bedroom Villas are excluded from the offer, and this offer can not be combined with any other discount.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
