Disneyland Resort Update for October 1, 2024

September 30, 2024 by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

The Disneyland Mom

Disney-focused social media this weekend was captivated by the video of a woman arrested at Disney California Adventure on Thursday. Dubbed “the Disneyland mom” by many news outlets, the woman reportedly visited DCA on Thursday with two young children in tow, used her own Magic Key to gain admission, but refused to present admission tickets for the children. When questioned by a cast member about the children’s ages, the woman allegedly shoved her way through the gate and into the park. Disney allows children ages 2 and under to visit the parks at no charge when accompanied by a paid adult, but all children ages 3 and older require their own admission tickets.

The Orange County Register identified the woman as 26-year-old Jessenia Diaz, a Magic Key holders from Torrance. The Register reports Disneyland security approached Diaz again in the park and offered to let her purchase tickets for the children to remain in the park. Diaz refused, and was reportedly so uncooperative that Disney asked the Anaheim police department to step in.

One of the videos shows Disneyland security and Anaheim police department officers escorting a handcuffed Diaz through Paradise Pier, with her two children clinging to her and crying for help. We have chosen not to link to the video because the children’s faces are not obscured.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Diaz’s daughters are three and four years old, and cites an Anaheim police department spokesperson in saying that Ms. Diaz was suspected of having snuck the children into the theme parks without purchasing tickets for them at least three times prior to last week’s incident.

In a pair of now-deleted TicTok videos, Ms. Diaz called the claims “pure lies,” and promised to share her own side of the story. Diaz also stated she “had proof,” and would “for sure” be suing Disney.

While this particular incident made international news, it’s only because it was an extreme case of something which happens every day – people trying to bring children older than 2 into a Disney park without a ticket. If you spend any time in Disney discussion areas you know how often the topic gets brought up, with some people asking how they can prove their larger-than-average child really is still 2, or debating why they should have to buy a ticket for an overage child who is still too short to ride most things.

Even as this story was unfolding last week, a member of a popular Facebook group for Disneyland Magic Key holders asked if or how they could purchase a new Magic Key for their daughter who had just turned 4, as sales of new passes are currently on hold. Even among visitors you would expect to know the policies, it seems this one really trips people up.

For the record, here’s Disney’s current policy on purchasing a Magic Key for a recently-turned-three-year-old, even when sales of new Magic Keys are on hold. The passholder must go in person to the Disneyland ticket booth, and must bring both the child and their birth certificate or passport. You must do this within 60 days of the child turning 3. If you have questions, you can contact the Magic Key hotline at 714-781-7277, but you can not purchase the new pass by phone.

Is it time for the annual price hike?

October 11 is just around the corner, and for the past two years that date has brought an increase in Disneyland admission prices. We do not have any inside information, but with the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure coming up in November, it’s a good bet that Disneyland will hike prices beforehand.

If you’re planning a visit this holiday season or in 2025, now would probably be a good time to purchase your tickets at the current rates, and get ahead of any future increase. Our partners at Get Away Today can help you plan your visit, and lock in the lower ticket prices now through their layaway plan. Visit them online or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, and be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet.

More Halloween treats

Halloween Time started to early this year that it’s surprising that today is only the first day of October – it feels like the holiday is almost upon us. Disney is refreshing their Halloween merchandise lineup with new releases this week, which is great considering many of the earlier offerings are reportedly sold out for the season.

A new Nightmare Grog is available starting today at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. The non-alcoholic treat combines two flavors of Dole Whip with Trader Sams signature Gorilla Grog. On Thursday, a new Scary Teddy popcorn bucket joins the collection at Disneyland, along with a Madame Leota straw clip.

Resort Events

Check here to see if a large convention, competition, or park event might fall during your next trip to the Disneyland Resort. If you know of any in-park events, official or unofficial, that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail.

2024

  • Halloween Time – August 23 through October 31.
  • Plaza de la Familia – August 23 through November 2.
  • Oogie Boogie Bash – August 25, 27 and 29; September 3, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26 and 29; October 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29 and 31. Tickets are sold out
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – Opens November 15.
  • Holidays at the Disneyland Resort – Begins November 15.

2025

  • 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – January 30 – February 2. Most events are sold out.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.

If you’re a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

Discounts for Magic Key Holders

Magic Key Holders receive discounts on food and merchandise at participating locations, based on Magic Key type. Visit the Magic Key Discounts website for current details.
