The Hot Halloween Half Marathon Weekend
With temperatures in the days leading up to the race topping 110 degrees, it seems fitting that two Arizona natives took first place in the men’s and women’s category for the inaugural Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon this Sunday. KTLA reported that Nicholas Hilton of Phoenix broke the tape in 1:16:52, while Ashley Cheff of Scottsdale finished in 1:29:16.
The half marathon race capped a weekend of events which included kids races, an in-park yoga class, and 5K and 10K runs. For the second time this year, the men’s 10K title was claimed by Jackson Mayorgas of Murrieta, and Stehanie Shimansky of Winter Springs, FL took the women’s division.
4,200 people completed the “Chills and Thrills Challenge,” which included Saturday’s 10K race and Sunday’s half marathon. Full results are available on the race website.
Disney caps tuition benefits through Aspire program.
When Disney announced the Aspire program 6 years ago, the company touted it as “a groundbreaking free education program” which would cover “100 percent of tuition paid up front” for eligible cast members to enroll in “everything from language learning and trade programs to bachelor’s and master’s degrees.” The program expanded from an online-only offering to also including in-person classes at select schools, most notably for Disneyland cast adding Fullerton College and California State University Fullerton to the network in 2022.
Now comes word that the program will fundamentally change this fall, and the news has current and prospective Disney Aspire participants reeling. Last week Disney announced a funding cap of $5250 annually on the program’s benefits, and the elimination of new Masters degree programs from coverage entirely.
The funding cap takes effect for many schools 11/27/2024, though Disney says cast members who are enrolled, or plan to enroll prior to that date may have their term fully funded depending on when their school processes payments. The funding cap does not yet apply to the remaining schools, which includes the two Fullerton campuses, but Disney says “funding caps are intended to eventually apply to all students.”
Students who were already admitted to graduate and trades programs through Disney Aspire may continue in their programs, but may be subject to the new funding caps. Effective immediately no new applications to these programs will be accepted.
According to Disney, there are more than 3,000 Disneyland Resort cast members in the Aspire program, and another 1,200 have already graduated. At Walt Disney World, more than 8,000 cast members are active in the program, with more than 3,500 having graduated.
Not surprisingly, the news came as a shock to Disney cast members, with some taking to Reddit to express their frustration. User WumboVader said, “Absolutely devastating. I just moved this past week from California to Florida to work at WDW (I literally had onboarding this morning). The deciding factor that made me uproot my entire life was that Disney would pay for a masters degree. This truly has thrown my future plans out the window. Don’t even know what to do now…” Several other users said they were in a similar position, and some said they were reconsidering whether to stay with Disney.
This new cap seems to be linked to an IRS limit on the amount employers can deduct for educational assistance programs. “By law, tax-free benefits under an educational assistance program are limited to $5,250 per employee per year. Normally, assistance provided above that level is taxable as wages.” This explanation did little for Reddit member Rick_Flexington, who said, “If given the option to pay the remaining tuition or the taxes on that amount I know what I’d choose.”
Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace updates menu offering
We’ve previously written about the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace, and last week Disney announced a new offering for the added-cost viewing opportunity.
Rather than having guests pick their entree and sides from the Galactic Grill menu, the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace experience now offers each guest a prix-fix meal served in a retro Tomorowland bento box. The equally retro “chef’s choice” menu comes with a cold Charcuterie-style sandwich, Waldorf salad, pimento cheese ball with crackers, seasonal fruit, seasonal desserts and chocolate. Customers also receive unlimited soft drinks, coffee, hot cocoa, and bottled water, and a specialty themed nonalcoholic beverage. The price is now $89 per person, and the package is offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the addition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Customers check in and are escorted upstairs to the Skyline Lounge to pick up their food and drinks. The package includes a reserved table in the Skyline Lounge all night, and you can come and go as you please. Note: You may be seated with other parties. Each table in outfitted with charging stations for your electronic devices, and there are a variety of games around the area if you’re so inclined.
The website notes that the Disneyland fireworks are visible from this location, but the projections are not. Fireworks are not scheduled every night, and are subject to cancellation due to weather.

This and That
…Indiana Jones Adventure is closed for refurbishment Monday – Friday this week, and will reopen on Saturday.
… The Walt Street Journal last week reported that the data stolen by hackers in a breach of Disney’s Slack accounts in July included details of Disney Cruise Line passengers and Disneyland Resort guests, as well as details about Disney Genie+ sales. Mashable writes that the names and contact information of some customers who booked Disneyland dining reservations was included in the data leak, as was the personal information of Disney Cruise Line passengers. Some DCL crew also had their passport information leaked.
… There are two merchandise releases on September 12 that are sure to cause lines around vending carts in both parks. A Halloween Stitch popcorn bucket and a Halloween Alien sipper will both be released Thursday. Before you stand in a line, check the Disneyland app to see if either item is available via mobile order. When the Halloween Mickey Mouse popcorn bucket was released last month, it was available via mobile order from the popcorn cart in DCA’s Condor Flats. The Galactic Grill frequently offers these food souvenirs for mobile order as well, which can save you time. Both items will also be released on the Disney Cruise Line, and the Alien Sipper is also heading to Walt Disney World.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Anaheim Resident Ticket Offer – August 5 – September 26, 2024
The Anaheim Resident Ticket Offer is a one-day, one-park ticket to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for just $69 per person, ages 3 and older. You can purchase these promotional tickets online through the Disneyland website, by phone at 800-506-6720, or in person at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. Eligible residents are limited to purchasing five tickets per person, per day.Disney says proof of eligible residency, including valid government-issued photo ID, is required for purchase and admission, which means you can not buy this ticket for out-of-town friends and family.
There is no option to upgrade this ticket to a one-day park hopper ticket or a multi-day ticket. It’s also important to note that theme park reservations are required to use these tickets – you can’t just buy them and walk right in without a reservation. Disney recommends checking the reservations availability calendar before you purchase the tickets, and make your reservations immediately to secure the dates you want.

3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer – June 10 – September 26, 2024
Visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three weekdays between June 10 and September 26, 2024 for as little as $149 for ages 3-9, or $249 for ages 10 and older using a new discounted ticket which goes on sale May 29, 2024. That represents a savings of up to $219 off the regular price of a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket for children ages 3-9. The adult offer is a $141 discount, and is the same price than the summer 2023 deal.
You can also choose between a ticket good Monday through Thursday OR a slightly more expensive ticket good any day of the week. There are also options to add park hopping and Disney Genie+ service to your ticket at the time of purchase.
This new offer differs from past discouts discounts, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase.
The 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $149 for ages 3-9; $249 for ages 10 and older. Three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
- The any day ticket – starting at $199 for ages 3-9; $299, for ages 10 and older. Three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
You can use every day of the 3-Day Disneyland Ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day unless you add the park-hopper option ($70 per ticket)
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 10 and wait until September 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that reservations for this category of ticket are not guaranteed for any particular dates, and that a date may sell out in this ticket category though other ticket types have reservations of available. It is probably best to purchase early and make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
Tickets expire on September 26, 2024, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.
May purchase up to 15 tickets per eligible person per day. Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions. Subject to restrictions and change or cancellation without notice.
