Demolition and Refurbishments
New permits filed for Avatar(?) expansion

Disneyland last week file a series of confidential building permits for demolition of a portion of the Hollywood Backlot area in Disney California Adventure.
Because the permits are confidential, very few details are available, but two of the permit specifically call out demolition of the Monsters, Inc. attraction and the nearby Hollywood Lounge.
Disneyland has filed 9 confidential plan check demolition building permits this afternoon. One of the permits is related to the Monsters Inc. attraction building and one is related to the Hollywood Lounge QSR building. As these are confidential, there is no specific information I… pic.twitter.com/5EHmJYYX2U

Readers may recall Disney had previously announced that Monster’s Inc, Mike and Sulley to the Rescue would close in “early 2026” to make room for the new Avatar experience, but as the new year came and went, the company gave no additional hints as to when the attraction might close its oversized doors.
Then in February, then-Disneyland Resort president Thomas Mazloum announced the ride would remain open into 2027.

At the time, Mazloum said the schedule change was simply due to a shift in the construction sequence for Avatar, and did not mean the new project has been scrapped. However, the success of the Zootopia-themed land at Shanghai Disney Resort has led some Disney fans to wonder if Zootopia would be a better fit for this section of Disney California Adventure than Avatar. That speculation was further fueled when retired Imagineer Jim Shull posted that he expects new Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro to announce exactly that change.
Expect an announcement that Avatar at #DCA will be replaced by #Zootopia. Quick & easy way for #Damaro to make statement & Zootopia fits better at DCA, the land attracts 1 in 4 guests to #ShanghaiDisneyland. More on https://t.co/JDFWra3aI6 pic.twitter.com/NnobGGvM99

Refurbishment notes

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is now closed for refurbishment. The reopening date is not published, but the ride will be closed for at least one month.

Blue Bayou Restaurant and Pirates of the Caribbean both close for refurbishment on May 4, 2026. The online calendar now shows the Blue Bayou Restaurant will reopen May 21, but Disney has not provided a reopening date for Pirates.
Water bottles added to attraction ban

We think it’s just common sense not to bring a 3.5-pound metal water bottle onto an inverted roller coaster, but it seems that Disney really needed to make this a formal rule, and the months-old ban has recently hit the national news cycle.
Earlier this year Disney posted signs at the Mickey and Minnie Runaway Railway attraction, advising riders that all items needed to be secured prior to boarding. The sign specifically states that loose items may not be held during the ride, and photos specify glasses, water bottles, cell phone and hats.
This policy change was reportedly made to help keep the ride running smoothly for everyone and decrease wait times. Loose items dropped onto the trackless floor will cause the ride to stop, and it takes a while to retrieve the item and get the ride cycling again. There’s also a serious risk of damage to the ride vehicle if one runs over a loose item.

A similar rule has also been in place for The Incredicoaster in Disney California Adventure since at least February, this time targeting reusable metal water bottles like the popular Stanley tumblers. Disney placed a small bookshelf-like unit at each of the loading platforms, and requires riders to leave their oversized bottles there before boarding. (Mind you, Disney does the same if you have a large backpack with can’t safely fit at your feet).
Having personally been smacked by hats, eyeglasses and even a necklace that came loose from riders on far gentler roller coasters, I can’t only imagine the injury potential were a metal water jug to fall out at the top of the Incredicoaster loop. This policy makes perfect sense, and shouldn’t be news to anyone at all.
New FuelRod options at Disneyland
If you use Disneyland’s mobile app, you know it is basically impossible to get through a day at Disneyland without recharging your phone. Most visitors bring a spare power bank with them, and quite a few rely on FuelRod portable chargers. FuelRod has kiosks throughout the Disneyland Resort where users can swap their depleted charger for a fully-charged unit at no cost, beyond the initial purchase price of $30 for a kit which includes the FuelRod and charging cables. However, frequent visitors have likely experienced the frustration of trying to swap their FuelRod for the second or third time in the day, only to discover the kiosk is out of replacement chargers.

FuelRod has a new way to address this challenge, and has recently introduced a new product, the FuelRod MAX10. This power bank is 10,000mAh, a vast improvement over the original 2,600mAh FuelRod, and should be enough to power your device all day.
The new unit can also power two devices at once, and is MagSafe compatible.

You cannot swap your original FuelRod for a Max10 at the kiosk, but you can purchase a new Max10 kit for $80, and then swap as needed. If you plan ahead, you can also purchase the Max10 kit for around $65 via the company’s website or via Amazon. If you prefer the smaller original version, you can also find those online for much less than in the theme parks.
The FuelRod kiosks also now sell a $20 charging cord, which is more convenient than the short connectors that come with the FuelRod kits, (and seems to be the thing I am most likely to leave in my car when I visit the parks).

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Tickets, Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 8, 2025.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

California Resident Park Hopper Ticket [Offer sold out April2, 2026]
The California Resident Park Hopper ticket is $249, a savings of more than 50% when compared to the new price ($526) of a 3-day park hopper ticket. The ticket is valid for all ages 3 and older, for visits between January 1 through May 21, 2026.
Theme park reservations are required to use this ticket, and we strongly recommend making them as soon as you purchase the ticket so you have the best selection of dates.
The best news is that there is no “fuse” on this ticket, and no blockout dates. You can space out your visits to catch the holiday decorations and entertainment at Disneyland before they end on January 7, return in February for the Lunar New Year celebration, and visit one more time to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival.
It is really important to note that everyone purchasing and/or using the ticket must be a resident of California. This means you can’t purchase them for out-of-state friends and family, and everyone over the age of 18 should be prepared to show government-issued photo ID at entry.
NO longer available for purchase, though those who already bought the ticket can continue to make theme park reservations and use it.

You can make reservations up to 240 days in advance. Fortunately, Disneyland has just released their full 2026 Event and Festival calendar so you can be ready to make reservations for the events you want to attend.
You can change your dates later, but Disney will set aside only a limited number of reservations for this ticket type each day and so you may not be able to get the dates you want later. As with the prior offer, the terms state, “reservation availability for Kids’ Special Offer Ticket holders is not guaranteed for any date, and reservations may be difficult to get for any particular date, especially as the ticket expiration date approaches.”
