Disneyland Resort Update for May 4, 2026

May 4, 2026 by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

May the 4th Be With You

Last week brought a major change to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, with Han Solo, Leia Organa and Darth Vader joining Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and R2-D2 in the Black Spire Outpost.

MousePlanet contributor Justin Rodgers spent a day on Batuu, and shares his photos of the new arrivals, as well as some new merchandise available for the franchise.

The final two Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite events of 2026 are this Monday and Wednesday, May 4 and 6. The after-hours events feature unique entertainment, character appearances, merchandise releases and food offerings. Disneyland closes at 8:00 p.m. each night for the parties, and event guests can begin to enter the park as early as 6:00 p.m.

Disney California Adventure remains open until 9:00 p.m., and Downtown Disney is open until 10 p.m. each night.

Disneyland updates facial recognition policy

Long-time annual passholders know that Disneyland once printed their photo right on the back of their annual pass card. Disneyland transitioned to linking APs to digital photos in the 20-teens, shortly before it began requiring visitors with multi-day tickets to also take photos at the main gate. This policy was implemented in an effort to cut down on massive ticket sharing and resale schemes, and by 2017 expanded to cover all ticket types. It’s been nearly a decade since visitors could walk into Disneyland without having their photo taken, but only in the last month has Disney openly incorporated facial recognition technology into the main gate experience.

On a new page on the Walt Disney Company website titled “FACIAL RECOGNITION AT THE DISNEYLAND RESORT,” Disney explains that it is now using facial recognition technology because it “facilitates ease of reentry into our parks and helps prevent fraud.” The company began testing this at least two months ago, and has rolled it out to both California parks.

As before, visitors take a digital photo when they enter either theme park for the first time using a new ticket. (Over the past year Disney has upgraded the main entrance gates with new displays and a built-in camera so visitors can take their own photo). Up until recently, when a guest entered the park for a second or subsequent visit, their photo would show on a display visible to the cast member working at the gate, who would then grant entry.

Now, Disney says it uses biometric technology to convert and compare the original and subsequent photos to look for a match. The company says it deletes the biometric data within 30 days of creation, “except in cases where data must be maintained for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.”

It’s really too soon to know if this process will make entry faster now that a computer is comparing the photos instead of a cast member. In a Reddit thread on the topic, one parent complained they were forced to wake a sleeping child so they could have the reentry photo taken, rather than the cast member just looking at the child and comparing the original photo. Several people noted that there are now fewer cast members working at the gates, which makes it more difficult to get help when there is a problem with the system.

For those who prefer not to participate in Disney’s facial recognition program, there are designated entrance gates for each park which do not use the new technology. Disney says, “When using these entrance lanes, you may still have your image taken. However, these lanes will not utilize biometric technology on your image. Instead, a Cast Member will manually validate your ticket.” Just like the good old days of 2025.

A new spin on Roger Rabbit’s ride

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin reopened last week with a noticeable change. MousePlanet file photo.

When Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin reopened this week, fans discovered a noticeable change to the 32-year-old attraction. Though “Lenny the Cab” still has a steering wheel, the wheel no longer seems to spin the ride vehicle as it previously did. Instead, some riders are reporting the ride vehicle now moves and spins on its own through much of the ride, much like the Doombuggy in the Haunted Mansion moves to focus the rider’s attention on a specific scene. Further, photos show the steering wheel has been redecorated to remove the directional arrows which prompted the rider to spin the wheel.

We have reached out to Disney for more information about this change.

Jamba out, Boba coming to Downtown Disney

Disney has confirmed that another original Downtown Disney tenant will be closing soon to make way for a new offering. Jamba, formerly known as Jamba Juice, will serve its last smoothie on Sunday, July 5. After renovation, the space will be the new home to Bopa Go, which Disney announced would be joining Downtown Disney nearly a year ago. No word on when the new eaterie will open.

Tickets still available for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event

It’s been a month since ticket sales started for D23 : The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and there are still tickets available in quite a few categories, including the new one-day afternoon only Fan Pass with grants admission to the Anaheim Convention Center after 4:00 p.m. each day. Though the three-day Fan Pass is sold out, as is one-day all day Fan Pass for Saturday, it’s possible to cobble together a 3-day ticket of sorts by purchasing single-day tickets for Friday and Sunday, and the afternoon-only pass for Saturday. This works out to $280.75 per person.

On the opposite end of the price chart there are fewer than 100 Ultimate Preferred Fan Passes left for the event. This ticket grants all-day access to the Anaheim Convention Center for the three days of the Expo, plus floor seating for all three events at the Honda Center. These tickets start at $2,299 per person.

Ticket availability and pricing for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event as of May 3, 2026.

This and That

…At press time, all four tiers of Magic Key passes are still available for purchase.

  • Gay Days [Unofficial event] – September 18-20, 2026. Details on the event website.
  • The Holidays at Disneyland – Begin November 18, 2026

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Tickets, Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 8, 2025.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

California Resident Park Hopper Ticket [Offer sold out April2, 2026]

The California Resident Park Hopper ticket is $249, a savings of more than 50% when compared to the new price ($526) of a 3-day park hopper ticket. The ticket is valid for all ages 3 and older, for visits between January 1 through May 21, 2026.

Theme park reservations are required to use this ticket, and we strongly recommend making them as soon as you purchase the ticket so you have the best selection of dates.

The best news is that there is no “fuse” on this ticket, and no blockout dates. You can space out your visits to catch the holiday decorations and entertainment at Disneyland before they end on January 7, return in February for the Lunar New Year celebration, and visit one more time to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival.

It is really important to note that everyone purchasing and/or using the ticket must be a resident of California. This means you can’t purchase them for out-of-state friends and family, and everyone over the age of 18 should be prepared to show government-issued photo ID at entry.

NO longer available for purchase, though those who already bought the ticket can continue to make theme park reservations and use it.

MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today is offering the Kids’ Summer Ticket Offer at a discount.

Kids’ Summer Ticket Offer

  • 1-day Park Hopper ticket – $50
  • 1-day Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $84
  • 2-day Park Hopper ticket – $100
  • 2-day Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $168
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket – $150
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $252

Tickets are on sale now. You must make theme park reservation to use this ticket, and will be prompted to select your dates at the time of purchase. You can make reservations up to 240 days in advance. Fortunately, Disneyland has just released their full 2026 Event and Festival calendar so you can be ready to make reservations for the events you want to attend.

You can change your dates later, but Disney will set aside only a limited number of reservations for this ticket type each day and so you may not be able to get the dates you want later. As with the prior offer, the terms state, “reservation availability for Kids’ Special Offer Ticket holders is not guaranteed for any date, and reservations may be difficult to get for any particular date, especially as the ticket expiration date approaches.”

Full details available here.
