Disneyland Resort Update for August 18, 2026

August 18, 2026 by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

D23 Download

Disney D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event took place this past weekend in Anaheim, and it’s no exaggeration to say we’re still processing everything we heard, saw and experienced. If you were able to watch the Disney Experiences Showcase on Disney+ Saturday night, you’ve already heard all of the announcements that were made regarding the Disneyland Resort. We will spend much time in the coming weeks doing a deeper dive into those announcements – both what was said and what was NOT said – but for this week we have a quick recap of what you may have missed.

But first, if you didn’t get to see it in person or via livestream, Disney has posted the opening number featuring host Neil Patrick Harris. This fever dream of an introduction was crammed full of celebrity appearances, nods to Disney memes, self referential jokes and deep cuts so niche that only the most devoted Disney fans caught them all. No, you did not hallucinate Olaf falling, the snark about the Hatbox Ghost, that Joe Rohde cameo or the repeated references to Disney Lorcana. This strange and delightful opening number set the tone for a truly unexpected evening.

Here’s what was announced regarding the Disneyland Resort about Entertainment, Avengers Campus, the Coco attraction and an updated Tomorowland:

Entertainment

  • The “Remember…Dreams Come True” fireworks show returns to Disneyland in February 2027. This show debuted at Disneyland in 2005 for the 50th anniversary, and is unique among Disney fireworks shows in that it focuses on theme park attractions rather than movies and characters. The 2005 version of the show included images projected on Sleeping Beauty Castle and “it’s a small world.” The updated version will add projections on Tom Sawyer Island and the buildings of Main Street.

  • The original “World of Color” will return to Disney California Adventure in February 2027. In a presentation at D23, World of Color creator Steve Davison said the updated version will feature a scene which had been created for but cut from the 2010 version.
  • In summer 2027, the “Magic Happens” parade returns to Main Street, U.S.A. This parade debuted in 2020 as part of Disneyland’s 65th anniversary celebration, and performed just a few brief weeks before the theme parks closed due to the pandemic. The parade returned almost exactly three years later for the Disney 100 celebration, and ran through August 2024.

Avengers Campus

  • The Avengers Campus expansion opens in 2028, with two previously-announced attractions. Disney says the addition of Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab double the size of the campus at the Disneyland Resort.

  • During the showcase, Disney shared behind the scenes video from the production of Avengers Infinity Defense, and confirmed which performers are reprising their roles in the two new Avengers Campus attractions, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner and Iman Vellani.

Coco

  • The new Coco attraction begins one year after the events of the film, and will integrate elements of the upcoming sequel.

  • The attraction queue will feature statue of Miguel’s great-great-grandfather, Héctor Rivera. A model of the statue was on display during the D23 event.
During “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress” at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026, Disney Experiences announced that a reimagining of Tomorrowland in Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., is in the works. The transformation will honor the legacy of the original land while reimagining its future with new attractions, more open spaces and new places for you to dream about the future. (Disneyland Resort)

Tomorrowland

The caption of the photo provided to us by Disney tells you pretty much everything we know about the just-announced and long-overdue update of Disneyland’s Tomorrowland:

“The transformation will honor the legacy of the original land while reimagining its future with new attractions, more open spaces and new places for you to dream about the future.”

Beyond that, there are no details. We don’t know when work will begin, or when the renovated land will reopen. We don’t know what new attractions are coming, or which existing attractions may be leaving to allow for “more open spaces.” We don’t know if the promised “new” attractions are truly new, or just a major update of an existing ride.

Regardless, this is good news for Disneyland fans, as Tomorrowland has been in dire need of an update for at least a decade. We look forward to seeing what Disney plans to do with this transformation, and how extreme the makeover might be.

Avatar

This project was barely even mentioned during the Disney Experiences Showcase, but it’s worth adding here. Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, the Avatar expansion – or “Avatar Destination” as the signs read – appears to be still happening. Walt Disney Imagineering shared a much larger version of a model for the new area, which includes a Disneyland Monorail passing by. The Monorail gives some idea of the size and scale of the addition – or at least what was shown on the model. An Imagineer said the section on display was just a “wedge” of the overall expansion, and does represent the borders of the new area.

Halloween Time begins

With D23 in the rear view and August halfway through, it’s time for Disneyland to focus on Halloween Time. The in-park transformation has already begun, with the giant Mickey pumpkin put in place before park opening on Monday. Disneyland officially kicks off the celebration on Friday with the return of popular Halloween Time entertainment.

Halloween Screams returns to the skies above Disneyland on Friday, August 21. The show will be presented nightly, weather permitting, through Halloween night. This is also a good time to remind readers that Fire of the Rising Moons will change the same night in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While not a Halloween show, the soundtrack played in the Black Spire Outpost changes to match the Halloween Screams fireworks display, and it’s worth a visit if you have more than one night to spend in Disneyland.

Sporting their new Halloween costumes, Disney characters will appear in the Mickey and Friends Halloween Cavalcade at Disneyland. There are two performances most days; check the Disneyland entertainment schedule for specifics on the day you visit.

Disney California Adventure brings back Mickey’s Trick and Treat at the Disney Theater starting Friday. This is a fun show for kids, and usually ends with a sweet surprise.

The return of the popular Plaza de la Familia brings The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate the Musical World of Coco! This musical retelling of the Coco story runs daily August 21 through November 2.

Of course there are the Halloween attraction overlays for the holidays, including:

  • Haunted Mansion Holiday
  • Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-Ween
  • Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark

Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit returns to Downtown Disney, and the recent new additions in the area will refresh this year’s hunt.

Clarabelle’s Enchanted Halloween Dinner returns to Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. (Artist Concept/Disneyland Resort)

Two Halloween character meals are offered at the Disneyland Resort hotels. These meals begin August 21, and reservations are open now.

  • Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Halloween!
  • Clarabelle’s Enchanted Halloween Dinner

Disneyland offers a head start on their Halloween treats

Just as Oogie Boogie Bash kicks off before the rest of the resort’s Halloween activities, Disneyland will offer fans a chance to sample the new Halloween eats before Halloween Time officially begins. Starting today, August 18, most of the new food and beverage offerings for Halloween Time are available at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

A new pumpkin pie layer cake is available at the Plaza Inn. Photo courtesy Disney.

The offerings usually fall into one of two categories – tooth-achingly sweet, or with tongue-tingling heat. This year there are also a few milder offerings and a nod to Oktoberfest. We are looking forward to sampling many of the new additions at a media event this Friday, but will also be snacking through the parks this week. Keep a watch on our social media as we try the new dishes.

Also dropping early this week, Disney will release the new Halloween novelty buckets, sippers and straw clips starting August 18. Many of these items will be available via mobile order through the Disneyland app, and we refer you to the Disney Parks Blog for the full list.

Bob Iger honored with window on Main Street

Hours before being named a Disney Legend at a ceremony at the Honda Center Sunday night, retired Disney CEO Bob Iger was honored with a window on Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A. The window is located above Disneyland’s Emporium shop and reads:
New Century Builders

Robert A. Iger
Chief Architect

Looking forward to your tomorrow

When opening Disneyland in 1955, Walt Disney started a tradition of honoring people who helped create the park with a personalized window on Main Street, U.S.A. These windows functioned as screen credit of sorts, and provide a touch of whimsy for park visitors, and serve as history for those who understand their significance.

Mark Goldhaber wrote a three-part series about the tribute windows at Walt Disney World for MousePlanet, and explained,

“There is a metaphor that compares the Magic Kingdom… to a movie. In this metaphor, the red walkways approaching the Magic Kingdom represent the red carpet to the entrance. The entry tunnels through the railroad station represent the theater lobby, which contains posters of coming attractions (literally).

Continuing the metaphor, the windows over the shops on Main Street, U.S.A., represent the opening credits as you walk into the park. In the same fashion, they serve as the closing credits before you walk out of the park, through the railroad station tunnel lobby, and back down the red carpet.”

There are nearly 100 such windows at Disneyland. You can read Mark Goldhaber’s series on MousePlanet: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

Last chance to see

The “Wondrous Journeys” nighttime spectacular, created for Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary, has its final showing this Thursday, August 20. MousePlanet file photo.

The Paint the Night parade and the Wondrous Journeys projection show and fireworks have their final performances this Thursday, August 20, 2026.

With Disneyland this weekend announcing the return of the Magic Happens parade and Remember…Dreams Come True fireworks in 2027, it seems likely this is the last time either of these two shows will be performed at Disneyland for the foreseeable future. Disney has not said what is next for the Paint the Night parade.

The Halloween Screams fireworks return to the skies above Disneyland on August 21 for the duration of Halloween Time. A Christmas Fantasy Parade returns November 13, with daytime and nighttime performances depending on park hours.

The Paint the Night Parade will run through August 20 at Disneyland. MousePlanet file photo.

Oogie Boogie Bash begins this week

The new “Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party,” debuts for the separately ticketed, after-hours Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party, on select nights beginning Aug. 18, 2026, at Disney California Adventure park in Anaheim, Calif. Guests can experience familiar and iconic moments from the Haunted Mansion with this new street party, featuring multiple show-stopping moments for Madame Leota to host her spirited séance and swinging wake filled with happy haunts, ghostly dancing and ghoulish delight. (Christian Thompson/Disneyland Resort)

Oogie Boogie Bash kicks off the 2026 season tonight, August 18, and Disneyland has just released two new photos and a video from Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party. These new looks seem to indicate there are three small parade units in this processional, along with several groups of walk-along performers.

We will be there opening night to bring you all of the updates for 2026, so stay posted for photos from the event.

We are also now at the point where there are fewer Oogie Boogie event nights available than have sold out, so we’re going to list the remaining nights as they last. As of press time, there were still tickets available for 12 event nights, including tonight’s debut event, as well as the D23-exclusive event on September 27.

  • August 18, 25 and 30
  • September 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 29
  • October 1 and 27

If you are still seeking tickets for one of the sold-out nights, you can book the Oogie Boogie Bash VIP Tour. This experience includes admission to the event for up to 8 guests, expedited entrance to attractions and entertainment during the event, a VIP lounge experience, and added perks and amenities. 2026 tours start at $7500; call (714) 300-7710 for details.

We will continue to track ticket sales each week through the season.

This and That

…You can now make reservations for lunch at the new Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby in Downtown Disney. Lunchtime reservations are available through Open Table, and walk-up seating is on a space-available basis. We had a fantastic meal there this weekend, and look forward to sharing our review soon.

…Tapestry of Happiness, a projection show which uses the facade of “it’s a small world” as a screen, has been extended again. With the show running at least halfway through Halloween Time, it appears it will probably continue until “it’s a small world” Holiday opens and Disneyland beings running the holiday projection show. This would be the last of the 70th anniversary entertainment offerings to remain in the park.

…At press time all dates were still available for the Anaheim resident ticket offer. The one-day, one-park ticket offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for just $71 per person, ages 3 and older, for visits from July 20 through October 8, 2026. You can find all details, including residency requirements, at this link.

…At press time, all four tiers of Magic Key passes are still available for new purchase and renewal.

  • Plaza de la Familia – August 21 through November 2, 2026.
  • Gay Days [Unofficial event] – September 18-20, 2026. Details on the event website.
  • The Holidays at Disneyland – November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Tickets, Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 8, 2025.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Anaheim Resident Ticket Offer

Anaheim residents can visit Disneyland during the final weeks of the “Celebrate Happy” promotion or the first weeks of Halloween Time for as little as $71 with an offer released in honor of Disneyland’s 71st anniversary.

The Anaheim Resident Ticket Offer is on sale now, and is valid for visits from July 20 through October 8, 2026. The one-day, one-park ticket offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for just $71 per person, ages 3 and older. You can upgrade this ticket to a one-day park-hopper ticket for $33 more, and also add Lightning Lane Multi Pass for an additional fee.

The catch is that you need to be a resident of the city of Anaheim to take advantage of this offer. Tickets may be purchased online starting July 16. Your payment method must have an Anaheim address in zip codes 92801 through 92809, 92812, 92814 through 92817, 92825, 92850 and 92899.

We also want to note that the terms and conditions state, “Sales may be paused or terminated at any time.” In 2024, Disney ended sales of the Anaheim resident ticket two weeks prior to the official end of the promotion, so we recommend purchasing the tickets as early as you can to avoid disappointment.

Eligible residents can purchase up to eight (8) tickets per person, per day, but each person who uses a ticket must show proof of residency in an eligible zip code. An Anaheim resident is not permitted to purchase tickets on behalf of others who are not Anaheim residents. This means everyone in your party (18 and older) should come prepared to show proof of residency in the eligible ZIP codes to use this promotional offer.

Discounts for Everyone

While we wait for Disneyland to release their next hotel special, you can contact MousePlanet’s travel partner Get Away Today and let them find the best deal for you. Get Away Today or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, and be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet.

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.

Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you’re a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

Discounts for Magic Key Holders

Magic Key Holders receive discounts on food and merchandise at participating locations, based on Magic Key type. Visit the Magic Key Discounts website for current details.
