Disneyland Resort Update for June 22, 2026

Autopia changeover has 2027 deadline

Disneyland’s Autopia attraction is slated for a major refurbishment by February, 2027 according to a report from the website Climate Colored Glasses. Citing a corporate compliance plan obtained by the site through a public records act request, the site reports Disneyland agreed in August, 2024 to bring the opening day attraction into compliance with California Air Resources Board regulations within 30 months.

In April 2024, the Los Angeles Times first reported that Disneyland would get rid of the gasoline powered engines at the iconic Autopia attraction. A Disney spokesperson told The Times at the time,

“Since opening with Disneyland park in 1955, Autopia has remained a guest-favorite most popular with young kids experiencing driving for the first time. As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years.”

Climate activists lauded the change, and even held a celebratory rally outside the Walt Disney Studios when Disney confirmed that the new engines would be fully electric. Later that year, the Disneyland Resort announced it had received the Sustainable Corporation of the Year Award from Sustain Southern California, and included the pending Autopia overhaul as one of the initiatives in an effort “to become a net zero emissions campus.”

Two years later, we’re learning much more about how and why this change came about, though Disney has not given many updates about the refurbishment timeline. In May, The Orange County Register that Disneyland was “working on the design, engineering and testing of a fully electric Autopia ride vehicle prototype.”

Still to be revealed is to what degree Honda, which built the current gas-powered engines and also holds the corporate sponsorship of the Autopia attraction through 2026, will be involved in the updated attraction.

Toy Story 5 at the Disneyland Resort

Toy Story 5 is in theaters now, and there are several new ways to interact with characters from the franchise at the Disneyland Resort.

In Disney California Adventure, Buzz, Woody and Jessie are sporting new costume accessories based on the newest animated feature. Fans can meet these characters at the Pixar Pier photo spot.

The Animation Academy has added Lilypad to the lineup of characters budding artists can learn to draw, along with Woody, Jessie, Bullseye and Buzz Lightyear. Check the daily schedule at the location to see when each character is being taught.

Starting July 2, all three Disneyland Resort Hotels will host a new “Disney Poolside Splash Bash” on Thursdays and Sundays, featuring Jessie, Bo Peep, and Woody. You must be a registered guest of the hotel to access the pool area for these parties; check the event schedule at your registered hotel for exact times.

Guests at the Pixar Place Hotel should be sure to stop by the second floor atrium for a new installation of artwork from Toy Story 5.

We noted last week that a new Bullseye popcorn bucket had been released at the Disneyland Resort in commemoration of the latest Pixar film. There are also new Toy Story treats to be found at Alien Pizza Planet in Disneyland

A slow start for Oogie Boogie Bash sales

Tickets for the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash events went on sale last week, and first-week sales were not as robust as we’ve seen the past several years.

At publication time, only events on October 11 and October 31 have sold out. Looking at the calendar and knowing which dates sold out during the Magic Key presale, we expect the following dates will sell out next:

• Sunday, September 6 (the day before Labor Day holiday)
• Sunday, October 4
• Sunday, October 18
• Sunday, October 25

Disney previously announced that the Frightfully Fun Parade would not be presented in 2026 (likely due to construction for both Avengers Campus and the new Coco attraction impacting access to the backstage parade float barn). Instead, Disney announced Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party would replace the parade.

The Frightfully Fun Parade already had a Haunted Mansion section, and the concept art for the new street party shows just two small units. While Disney has confirmed that Villains Grove and the nighttime ride of the Headless Horseman will both return for 2026, that may not be enough to lure fans in.

The fact that opening night 2026 did not sell out during either Magic Key pre-sale is a pretty strong indication that the lack of a major entertainment upgrade for 2026 is keeping Disney’s biggest fans on the sidelines. Opening night is often one of the first to sell out, as repeat visitors and influencers flock to be the first to see the latest additions.

We also note that tickets are also still available for the member-exclusive D23 Night at Oogie Boogie Bash on September 27.

MousePlanet used to track event sell-through in weeks, then days, and then in mere hours by 2023. After Disney nearly doubled the number of event nights in 2025, tickets did not completely sell out until the week the events began, and one night had same-day tickets available. We will continue to track sell-through, and are curious to see what Disney may do to boost sales.

Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes

Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes kicked off this weekend with the return of Yardfest in Downtown Disney. The month-long Celebrate Soulfully event includes “experiences that celebrate Black heritage and culture through music, food and art at the Disneyland Resort,” and runs through July 19.

During Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes, a new series of “Summer Vibes Concerts in the Park” will be presented at Paradise Gardens Bandstand in Disney California Adventure Park on select days. (Check the entertainment schedule on the Disneyland website for details). On Fridays and Saturdays, Paradise Gardens will feature live variety acts and special character encounters, including Drum Major Mickey Mouse (as reported by gentlemansdisney on Instagram).

Pirates to reopen this week

Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction has been closed since May 4 for refurbishment. The Disneyland website now indicates the attraction will reopen this Friday, June 26. The ride’s large capacity and air conditioning will be a welcome addition to the busy July 4th holiday week.

This and That

…Construction walls have been removed around the new permanent Earl of Sandwich and Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby locations in Downtown Disney, giving hope that the two eateries may open by the end of June or early July.

• Former ESPN Zone building – permits call for splitting the building into three units, with two ground-level retail spaces. The first of these, Lululemon, is now open.
• The Earl of Sandwich and Earl of Sandwich Tavern – closed Friday, November 7. The Earl of Sandwich truck on the west end of the district remains open at least until the new permanent Earl of Sandwich and Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby location opens.

Grand Californian Hotel

• A new two-story club lounge is planned for the Grand Californian Hotel, and will be constructed on the 5th and 6th floors overlooking the grand lobby.
• Guest room renovations will take place in phases through the fall.

• Steakhouse 55 – permanently closed. The lobby bar has reopened as the Broken Spell Lounge.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Fortunately, Disneyland has just released their full 2026 Event and Festival calendar so you can be ready to make reservations for the events you want to attend.

You can change your dates later, but Disney will set aside only a limited number of reservations for this ticket type each day and so you may not be able to get the dates you want later. As with the prior offer, the terms state, “reservation availability for Kids’ Special Offer Ticket holders is not guaranteed for any date, and reservations may be difficult to get for any particular date, especially as the ticket expiration date approaches.”

2026-2027 1-day Military Ticket offer

This new ticket offers eligible service members and their families Tier 0 pricing on one-day tickets any day of the year through the end of 2027. At current pricing, this offer represents a savings of to $120 off a Tier 6 day.

Costco Travel Packages – Costco Travel is not accepting new reservations to the Disneyland Resort.

Disney’s Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – these package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.
